FRESH LOOK NEEDED IN APPROACH TO DRUGS

I don't condone the use of prohibited drugs however I believe we need
a new approach to the problem.

We need a new approach because the existing approach, criminalization,
isn't working. I think alternatives need to be considered and one that
should be studied carefully is our system of controlling and
regulating the use of alcohol.

In the 1920s and '30s the possession of alcohol was prohibited with
disastrous results.

Finally prohibition was repealed and replaced with a system where the
distribution of alcohol was controlled, restricted and taxed.

This system isn't perfect and alcohol still causes a lot of harm in
our society but it is certainly better than the alternative.
