SHOPS OPPOSE METHADONE CLINIC

Forest Lawn - A methadone clinic that has already drawn protest from
an alderman is now under fire from a business association for
allegedly misleading people about its purpose.

Second Chance Recovery is forced to move from its home in greenview
after a city appeal board ruled the location wasn't zoned to house a
medical clinic.

On Tuesday, the clinic's lawyer said staff were eyeing a location in a
forest lawn strip mall and had won the support of the building's owner
and local businesses.

But Alison Karim-McSwiney, executive director of the international
avenue Business revitalization Zone, said those businesses had no clue
what the clinic was actually for.

"They were told it was a medical clinic," she said. "there's a little
bit of a difference between a medical clinic and a methadone clinic."

Ald. Andre Chabot said he will work to prevent the clinic from
relocating there because he doesn't approve of methadone.
