NO HOPE FOR DOPE

Re: "Mohawks, gangs, and tobacco" (Gazette, March 28).

Our government is effectively relinquishing control of the cigarette
trade to smugglers and organized crime, depriving the taxpaying public
of billions of dollars that would have been allocated for the care and
betterment of society.

This should silence all talk of plans to legalize marijuana and have
it become a legal, taxable good. If bandits can muscle in on
government territory with impunity, it would be insane to assume
government would be able to wrestle drugs away from them.
