CRAIG COLUMN ON THE MONEY

Dear Editor:

Wallace Craig presents your readers with essential commentary (Drug
Legalization Lobby Lacks Business Plan, North Shore News, Mar. 4). He
is insightful in his position and quite frankly goes where few dare to
go.

Society needs to be reminded that the direction we are taking is the
slippery slope. Unless we sit up and fly right, we are going to go to
hell in a hand basket.

Craig is on the money. He explores the real reasons that the
aspirations of the politicians are not workable in "la-la land." He
points the accusatory finger in all the right directions, starting
with "the feds, deceitful addicts and their myopic
supporters."

I dare not omit those individuals "perched in the surreal world of
academia atop Burnaby Mountain." There is a wonderful line by the Andy
Kilvinski police officer character in Joseph Wambaugh's The New
Centurions (and I paraphrase): "Look at all the academic experts while
they sip their martinis in their palaces. They see the criminals. We
see the victims."

Since we have lost Doug Collins and Les Bewley, it seems as if the
North Shore News has a new peoples' champion in the person of Wallace
Craig. He is an asset to your paper and to the community.
