POLICE CONTINUING TO WAGE WAR ON DRUGS

The Camrose Police Service will continue to wage war on drugs in
2009.

"It's going to be one of our top priorities," said Chief of Police
Darrell Kambeitz. "We are finding that drugs and the drug culture,
along with the distribution and the sale of drugs is bringing, and has
brought, an organized crime element to the city of Camrose that is
very similar to what is taking place in the larger centres."

The problem can be traced back to a simple case of supply and
demand.

"There are those in this city that are looking for that product and
these folks are here to deliver it," said Kambeitz. Our job, of
course, is to interrupt that distribution and the sales of those drugs."

Kambeitz believes the Camrose Police Service's new crime reduction
team will be effective in hitting unlawful elements of society where
it hurts the most.

"Whether it is stolen property, the possession of stolen property, any
kind of liquor related offences, whatever it takes, we will be putting
the effort forward to target those individuals and make sure they are
held responsible."
