WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THE MICHAEL PHELPS SAGA

Re: Phelps Takes A Hit, Colby Cosh, Feb. 6.

Let's all give Michael Phelps a break. Can any of the members of USA
Swimming, which suspended Michael for three months, claim to have
higher standards? If I were Mr. Phelps, I would hold a news conference
to announce that I am no longer fit to be an American swimming
competitor, and therefore will not compete in the 2012 Olympics. Then
wait and see how long it takes for the U. S. team to change its standards.

He could add insult to injury by denouncing his U. S. citizenship to
become a Canadian, allowing him to compete at the 2012 Olympics for
us. As a Canadian, he could indulge from a bong without a public outcry.
