MEXICO CITYMexican authorities seized more than a ton of cocaine from a
German ship and detained 14 foreign crewmenincluding seven Germansfor
questioning,the government said Monday.

The Attorney Generals Office said police and military personnel raided the
Germanflagged container ship near the west coast port of Manzanillo on
Saturday and found drugs stashed in boxes of books.

It said the haul of 1.145 tons of cocaine was one of the biggest this year
in Mexico.

The Attorney Generals Office said in a statement that the ship had traveled
from the Colombian port of Buenaventura to Manzanillo.

The crew of the TMM Jalisco,deadweight 7,761 tons,consisted of seven
Germans,two Poles and five Philippines nationals.The ship is registered in
the German port of Leer and owned by the Atlas Trampship Reederei
company,according to Lloyd's Register of Ships.
