Medical Pot Smokers May Get ID Cards

San Rafael Some pot smokers in Marin County may soon be issued
certification cards to prevent police from citing them for having
marijuana. County Supervisors John Kress and Steve Kinsey introduced a
proposed ordinance yesterday that would allow the county to give out
certificates to people who have verified illnesses that a licensed
clinician deems appropriate to treat with marijuana. The cards would be
valid for one year and would cost $25. The supervisors hope it will clear
up legal ambiguities caused by conflicting state and federal laws
regulating medicinal marijuana. Thomas Peters, the county health director,
said he will take feedback on the proposal for one month and then bring it
back to the board for a vote.
