DRUG SEIZURES SET NEW RECORD

It's been a record year for drug seizures at the Michigan border, says
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In an announcement Friday, ICE stated that the amount of high-grade
marijuana seized locally during the 2005 fiscal year jumped to more
than 8,600 kilograms -- an increase of about 325 per cent over the
previous year.

ICE Detroit estimated the total street value of all the marijuana they
seized in the 2005 fiscal year at $57 million.

Ecstasy Busts

Investigations and seizures of ecstasy tablets increased by 14 per
cent.

One prominent ecstasy seizure in the 2005 fiscal year occurred at the
Detroit-Windsor Tunnel in December of 2004. Kevin Do, 31, was
apprehended trying to smuggle more than 15,000 ecstasy pills into the
U.S. through the tunnel.

The drugs, which ICE estimated to have a street value of $250,000,
were found in a spare tire attached to the undercarriage of the Ford
Explorer that Do was using.

In April of this year, Do pleaded guilty to one count importing drugs
and one count possessing drugs with the intent to distribute.
