THE METH MENACE

Even though most of us wouldn't consider cooking or using highly
addictive methamphetamine, others who abuse it put our lives in danger
from highly volatile ingredients, make it inconvenient to buy cold
medicine, harm the environment and fill our prisons.

Heather Bolejack of the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, Lori Petro
of the Indiana State Police, Knox County Jail mental health counselor
Terry Jenkins and DePauw University student Katherine Billman examine
the effects on people who abuse meth and how law enforcement and
restrictions on over-the-counter drugs are effectively slowing its
use. With more than half of all meth lab incidents in the nation
occurring in the Midwest, especially in rural areas, 150 staffers and
advisers to 13 governors will attend the Midwestern Governors
Association's Regional Meth Summit in Indianapolis Tuesday through
Thursday to discuss ways to combat this menace. It will be hosted by
Gov. Mitch Daniels.
