SUSPECTED DRUG DEALERS CAUGHT AT KUALA LURAH

A foreigner and two locals, who were caught with 50.40 grammes of
Methylamphetamines (Syabu) at the Kuala Lurah Control Post this
week, could face the death penalty.

In Brunei Darussalam, anyone caught with more than 50 grammes of
Syabu, which is a Class-A drug, could be sentenced to death by
hanging, if they are found guilty in court.

The Narcotics Control Bureau with assistance from the Royal Customs
& Excise Department detained the three suspects who are between the
ages of 34 and 47 during the recent operation at the border.

According to the bureau, the trio will be prosecuted under Section
3(A) and Section 5.

Those found guilty of having in their possession controlled drugs
for sale, which is an offence under Section 3(A), will face capital
punishment. Meanwhile, those who are found guilty under Section 5
i.e. smuggling controlled drugs into the Sultanate could be jailed
for at least 20 years and get 15 strokes of the cane.

Members of the public are encouraged to assist the Narcotics Control
Bureau to rid the country of the scourge of drug abuse.

Those with any information on any suspected drug cases can tip off
the Narcotics Control Bureau by calling hotline 8777444 or 2448877
(during office hours).
