I played at an industrial night once .. I was requested to play "Closer" by NIN about 10 times.. by about 2 AM .. the promoters told me I had to play it or they are kicking me off. I put in the CD .. played the song. The crowd went wild. I played it again .. they went even wilder. I played it again. People started scratching their heads. I played it again .. they kicked me off. I think that's an unfair judgement .. I've put the most money into the hands of artists and DJs possible.. where otherwise there would be nothing. Plenty out of my own pockets too.

I paid you 50$ 2 days ago .. did your wage suddenly go up ? haha

I think doing weekly events can be a good thing.
The ideal in this situation is to be able to have a solid night that pays DJs well every week and host new DJs, however, 2 nights per week with the same format (back to back), is too much for the size of the scene. Period.

I do it for fun and I think we have something nice going on.
I 100% agree, that in this bizness, it should not be coming from a place of depending on it financically. I try to keep the business relation between the DJs on the premise that, we split what's at the door + some beers. It's free before 10 PM (and a large percent come for free)
At least for now that's how it's done. (With some exceptions)

This is the first winter the "psytrance weekly event experiment" has experienced.
Even the weekend parties (with big headliners etc) can experience terrible results due to shit weather and circumstance. (Which is why I won't organize parties in January, February or March anymore)

SO .. maybe it sucks to be the DJ that feels cheesed coming out in -40 to play for 5 people, but it can be pretty damn sweet to have regular 100$ bookings every couple of odd weeks in the summer right ?

John refuses to remove the rest of the bricks. As a matter of fact !! He intends on putting the bricks back in the main room at some point !! (although I doubt it will ever happen) I've told him a million times that they are fucking nasty and consequently he blames me for destroying the building. (Even for parties that I have nothing to do with)

So .. The moral of the story is. John wants ravers dead. Then he wants to take our money and frolic around naked in a pile of toxic bricks. THE END.

I must say Spore was an amazing party and far surpassed my expectations. This was a true representation of how the Montreal scene has evolved in terms of locallly produced music.
Everyones set was tight. I'm very impressed and I hope this inspires our established artists to collaborate as well as intrigue new comers into starting to produce their own music.

Parties like this are like a house of cards ready to collapse at any given moment ..
Big respect to Etienne, Pat, Matt, and Ote for holding it all together !
The concept of this event really pushes our local artists forward and there should be a sequel !!

Well psytrance has found itself balancing on the fools ledge between spiritualism and savage hedonism. Better to just accept the paradox. The culture, music and environment in my perspective (or at least the one I try to create) has a dark and light side. I accept both.

I care about peoples health and well being .. however I also care that someone tripping out doens't want to freeze their nuts off to have a cigarette. The balance. I do everything I can to create the best environment so people are happy. (Including myself) I smoke .. so go figure.

That's what I thought as well !! I didn't mention it to the police. Because I've learned the trick in the end is to simply agree with them. Putting up an arguement only makes them want to use test their power on you. Give them what they want to hear. Really simple. They will usually just let it slide.

Ye but it's a whole loft building full of neighboors .. That would be a lot of pay-off's and hotel rooms. Many of them are party people though. But still.

Especially since they came at the very beginning saying they were gonna shut it right down.

Well .. I think it's mostly cause this year there is competition dividing up the scene.
More headliners doesn't mean more people will come. Just makes the ticket price higher. In which case, makes it more difficult for all the po' ass hippies to afford :)

I'd personally rather here the same DJs that keep up to date and ACTUALLY know how to mix, then taking the chance on new guys. Slowly the newbies can work themselves into the mix, but I'd rather hear the DJs with experience and who are active in the community.

Spare a cigarette and kill a bum, hire a good DJ and save an eardrum :D

And ... Scorb coming back is killer .. the average memory of a raver is 3 minutes :P
+ Scorb obviously has PLENTY of brand new, "never heard before" material for those who actually do pay attention to what music is coming out. Ady doesn't mess around.
