oh trust me, man... i received like hardcore First-Aid trainings... and always tend picture out possible worst case scenarios by nature, so i know what you mean and entirely agree with you.

imo, if there was to be a New-Raver Survival Guide out there, learning how to develop their own 'sketch-radar' should be in it. eventhough its great to see most ppl using of common sense to detect signs of the sketch prior to the party, but what happen DURING the party, tho is a whole different bargain! some ppl (mostly highly intoxicated ravers) probably wont notice and/or care of some of those signs but, in any eventualities of shit going down, you have to keep a decent level of alertness!
thankfully enough im able to take the leads and deal with emergency situations fairly well, so thatd be one reason among others why i try to go to as many parties big or small as my schedule permits it

...and kinda be like the Depends diaper of the sketch, preventing shit from going down... lol :P

and as for the all these changes Project Mayhem is going thru, ppl should not worry about it, really... eventhough we all know, like all the past companies before us, we aint gonna stay active forever... why? because thats just the way it is.
one thing people should keep in mind, tho: as Le D confirmed, PM aint gone yet! its simply going into a slumber for a while for a later renewal. and quite frankly, i think this would be the best time to do this, actually... i think that 'leaving out in style and strong' and eventually come back as strong is far more preferable than bitterly quit 'in a nose-dive' and eventually be forgotten.
i may have sounded a bit dramatic a few posts above but it was not i my intention :/

EDIT: Surround yourself with a *RELIABLE* team! the reliabity factor is the very slim line between success and total clusterfuck in the organisation prior & during an event. therefore its crucial that you choose very carefully who you wanna work with (for many other reasons as well...)

im gonna let a few months pass before announcing another Project Mayhem event (probably later on this year, no plans have been confirmed yet)... but it shall be the the last one....ever.

After that, PM will be focusing more on helping out the next generation of promoters willing to achieve in the scene and 'guide' them in their own challenges (it had already started a while ago with Black & White productions with Rainbow Trip, actually... the success on their first event was quite convincing and im really confident with their upcoming projects) =)
