Released in 2005, "Smartbomb," was one of the best selling breaks tracks to come out of the albeit spartan North American breakbeat scene. Selected by the Plump DJs (along with tracks by the Freestylers, Lee Coombs and Madox - aka Riva Starr) to be used on their artist album "Saturday Night Lotion" on the top breaks label of all time, Fingerlickin Records, the track is set for a double pack release and is supported by remix contest held by Computer Music magazine!

First up is Pop And Lock's honcho Myagi, who rides the line between updating and remixing the track, taking what was already a bona fide classic and amping it up with new rolling techy vibes, extra acidic synths and hits, and even bigger builds.

Lazy Rich is a man needing less and less of an introduction over the last year, making it from relative obscurity to being one of the dominant names of the electro charts in a fashion similar to Miles Dyson or even the Mau5 and remixing everyone from Deadmau5 to Fatboy Slim! He does the original track a great service here, dropping it into chunky, funky party electro / tech territory and riding the groove from start to finish.

Italy's top breaks export Plaza De Funk has had a great couple years churning out the bombs and touring the world, with every self respecting broken beat DJ dropping his tracks.....Norman Cook even placed a phone call to grab a copy of his Drum Monkeys remix on Westway, so he's certainly got the pedigree to do this tune proud......and does he ever! One of his finest moments to date, the hooks of the original get mashed up in a blender with some proper rolling breaker beats and wonky vocal effects to make a proper rocker of a tune.

Next up is a duo you'll be hearing more from for sure! Rob Focuz and Secureunit, winners of Computer Music's Myagi Remix Competition, turned in this absolute belter - a fusion of the best of whats going on in the realm of broken beat. The remix starts with some great live drums and a wicked use of the samples before breaking down into some serious bass fuelled dubstep that will slay any crowd.

Hey Hey all!

Not sure if people have caught wind of this yet or no, but for those interested, Computer Music Magazine + Pop And Lock / Myagi Music are teaming up for a remix contest for my old Sole Claw - Smartbomb's rerelease!

Parts will be in the next issue of Computer Music mag's DVD - contest is open worldwide but parts must be from the DVD, so if you're not in the UK this may require either the online purchase of a copy of the mag, or trying to get your local retailer to try and get you a rush copy - the deadline is boxing day for submissions and the winner will be chosen by Barry Ashworth, Carl Loben and myself - prize is release on the label and getting your remix out alongside remixes by myself, Plaza De Funk and Lazy Rich - though you can check computer music mag for more deets when the mag is released!

The submission page is at [ www.myagimusic.com ] - the issue was released Oct 29th in the uk and may need to be special ordered in north america, but as a bonus, I'm giving away an "updated" mixdown of the original, plus free copies of my brand spanking new remix for those who join the Pop And Lock mailing list.

For those who can't wait for the mp3s - you can join the mailing list here:

[ visitor.constantcontact.com ]

Mp3 download link will be in the autoresponder email when you join :)

Out Now at Beatport - PAL10 - Christoph Maitland - Powertrain

Ladies and Gents, Pop And Lock is proud to present "Powertrain," the inaugural release from soon to be stalwart of the breaks and tech scene, Christoph Maitland!

The original mix mixes house with breaks and techno, memorable hooks and hard hitting drums with a moody vibe that fits well around that 1 AM point in time - think big drops, huge synths and techy funky madness with giant drums and youre in the ballpark, but you haven't gotten the half of it - this is a total peak time rocker.

Victoria BC's Toby Emerson turns in a superb remix to go with the original, one part tech-funk, one part warehouse electro and deep as hell. Wicked synth stabs abound overtop of a rolling groove that begs to be danced to. One for the late nights, this thing rolls it out. Amazing track!

No stranger to the breaks heads out there, Farace brings the funk back with a driving, low slung rocker. Coming off the back of a series of hot as hell remixes, he shows off some great studio skills with this one, taking yet another track and putting it through the wringer using parts from the original to great effect alongside a great stomping groove.

Last but not least, Christoph drops the tempo with "Digital," a great piece of electronica with a totally timeless feel. Great sax lines and amazing percussion roll overtop of a deep throbbing bass groove to make a track that defies genre. Melodic and synth heavy, throw this on the ipod and drop it on a sunday morning!

About Pop And Lock

Founded in 2007 by Canada's broken beat noise icon Andrew Mavor (aka Myagi), Pop And Lock's broad spectrum of sound touches on breaks, house, electro, techno and everything in between.

The label started off by releasing (in conjunction with Freddy Fresh's Howlin' records) Myagi's debut long player "3 Years Of Sunrise" which was called a "masterpiece" by DJ Mag and got play on radio stations of every variety.

Pop And Lock's releases have been both critically acclaimed and have topped sales charts, and with remixes by Nick Thayer, Malente, Cut La Roc, Ill.Gates, Dub Pistols, Groove Diggerz and more, the sound of Pop And Lock is penetrating dancefloors across the globe.

Myagi - Monolith - Pop And Lock

Original
Myagi Acid Funk Breaks Remix
Jake Chec Remix
Preview at:

Myagi's "Pop And Lock Records" is heating up - the ridiculously good "How To Test" ep is chased by this triple heater of Myagi tracks fronted by the prog meets minimal meets electro "Monolith" - chunky big techy house beats combine with raspy bass, fidgety synth hits and a melodic bittersweet lead to create a huge combo that defies genre limits and plots new territory for the label.

Myagi's "acid funk breaks" remix is a huge nu-skool-y broken beat affair with monster leads and a build that evokes old acid big beat. Rolling breaks and synths punch with a huge sub and the whole thing blows up with a tweaked out screaming acid line that squeals with the best of them.

Jake Chec turns in a blinder of a remix, grabbing the best parts of the original and taking the track into prog house territory - big kicks, and acid bassline and a huge breakdown - a monster reworking of a huge original - big rolling Giorgio Moroder-esque house breaks down into a big melodic breakbeat affair and then pulls it all back to a pounding finish. Killer!

Heres what some key players are saying!!!!!

Discoscience
Favourite: myagi`s acid funk remix
Feedback: yes..perfect discoscience trax... big, bassy and in yer face... excellent!!

Carbon Community Dave
Favourite: Undecided
Feedback: Juicy tunes. I am not sure which one is my favorite. All three posses something that I like. Feeling it for sure. I definitely didn't see the breakdown in Jake's mix coming. Like 'em all. Big ups Myagi and friends!

Jon Carter
Favourite: Original mix of Monolith
Feedback: Yeah - like it. Nasty in the right places

DJ Dan
Favourite: Acid Funk remix
Feedback: All good tracks!

Myagi's Dad
Favourite: Sorry - don't believe in competitions
Feedback: Great stuff, though some chick (your mom) referenced some reggae feel and I don't find it. Kept waiting for that sub to blow up! Great urban driving sndtrk.

Cut La Roc
Favourite: Like em all
Feedback: Something for everyone here, nice work, will drop it tonight :)

Phil Splitloop
Favourite: Monolith - Myagi's Acid Funk Remix
Feedback: Feeling the Acid Funk remix - got all the usual Myagi attitude with a nice fight between the chords and the elastic synths.

Jez (Utah Saints)
Favourite: Both
Feedback: Another piece of quality from Myagi! Thanks!

Dj Sonny D (owner of the east coast of Canada)
Favourite: Myagi - Monolith - Myagi's Acid Funk Remix
Feedback: I like the Acid Funk Remix myself but I will likely play the original more. It's certainly got that signature Myagi sound. The Jake Chec remix is dope as hell. I hope I get the opportunity to play some late night/early morning sets so I can really get behind that remix.

Ian / Daniella Downs (general Muppet)
Favourite: Acid Funk mix
Feedback: that's what the f&*k i'm talking about. that's f&*in dope right there.

Barry Ashworth (Dub Pistols)
Favourite: Myagi's Acid Funk mix
Feedback: another Myagi classic

Rob Savage (Groove Diggerz / Breakin Even)
Favourite: Monolith Original
Feedback: Absolute whopper, lovin all 3 mixes, a great release, love the new direction. big ups mate.

Name: Nick Thayer (aka Nick Thayer)
Favourite: Acid Funk Mix
Feedback: Wicked package. Chunky and ravey all at once.

Sal Lil'Stormer
Favourite: Myagi - Monolith - Myagi's Acid Funk Remix
Feedback: Digging all 3 tracks, can imagine playing each of them out at different times, depending on the mood, set and crowd. Original Monolith is a good chunky mover, good builder. Would play the Acid Funk remix for a more peak time nutty crowd. Love the acid madness innit.

Angus Robinson
Favourite: Acid Funk remix
Feedback: The Acid Funk mix is freakin' brilliant. Those are some crisp drums, man!
