SUMMER SLAM

Wednesday August 24th 2005
A night of headbanging drum n bass featuring...

-NIGHTBREED-

(ram, frequency, xl, uk)
RAM Records is the biggest DnB label in the world and thier hottest new act is NIGHTBREED. NIGHTBREED's signature style of rock influenced dnb was showcased by thier smash hit "Pack of Wolves". The tune was later remixed by heavyweights Pendulum and Matrix and the remix continued to chart for
weeks, as did the original. Currently, [NIGHTBREED has released official remixes for heavyweight electronic artists Prodigy and Roni Size and are currently booked in the studio with similar collaborations for the next year! Due to NIGHTBREED's exclusive record deal with the worlds largest DnB label, they are constantly headlining only the biggest clubs in Europe. This is NIGHTBREED's first trip to the US ever!!

-PROTOCOL-

(kool fm, killahertz, fuze, infrared, aspect, uk)

DJ PROTOCOL is an 11 year veteran on UK FM radio. He is curretly in the 7th year of his run on the infamous DnB radio station Kool FM. This means that PROTOCOL always has a set full of the freshest dubplates. He was also owner of the famed record label Machine Code Recordings and was the A&R of Smokers Inc., the home of the ground breaking producer Smokey Joe. This is his 3rd US tour.

-DIODE -

(signal recordings, flatline records, MA) During the summer of 2002, while hanging out with some friends, "Diode" was born. After a friend suggested the name, Alex picked it up and kept it while starting the DiodeProductions project simultaneously. About this time, Diode had been exposed to many of dnb's finest artists and used them and many more for inspiration. He also tried to fuse his trance production experience with his new music and came up with his own unique sound. With releases now on Signal Recordings, and forthcoming bits on Flatline Records, Diode is currently a man to watch in dnb not only in New England but the rest of the world as well.

-TERRAVITA-

(trainspotters music, ri)

TERRAVITA is a collaboration between New England dnb heavyweights Chris Crisis and MrMatt. Chris Crisis was previously owner of OnPoint Productions and has organized events all over the east coast from Providence to Miami. He has tavelled equally as much for his DJ gigs. MrMatt has bee around as a member and resident DJ for Volume Productions for the last 4 years. His DJing has also earned him many out of state gigs as far away as Seattle! Currently, they have joined forces to produce and perform as TERRAVITA, and to form Trainspotters Music. Trainspotters is currently organizing all of the huge DnB shows in Boston and Providence as well as reopenning Boston's all DnB record store and running a new label of the same name.

NuBreed have consistently set the pace in Australia, thanks in no small part to their amazing ability to deliver a show to a club culture audience that packs in all the dynamic energy and showmanship you’ve come to expect from a great rock band. Coupled with their awesome songwriting and production skills, this has established NuBreed as the leading, most progressive exponents of an influential and rapidly expanding global scene. But then, this was always their objective…

‘Absolutely awesome’ - Hybrid (UK)

Jase, DB & Mykel (the NuBreed Collective) have distilled decades of collective musical experience into NuBreed’s debut album entitled “The Original”. Their philosophy of the “style of no style” is finally defined on this epic journey of filmic soundscapes, superb songwriting and cranking urban derived rhythms. Mykel from NuBreed explains - “We incorporate all styles to define our own, not settling for the doctrines set by others”. Joining them in the studio for this album were production luminaries Andy Page (programming genius behind the likes of Sasha & BT), Luke Chable and special guests Koolism.

Nominated for 3 DMA's (Dance Music Awards) in 2002 for Best Debut Artist, Best Live Act and Best New Release, and nominated for Best Live Act again at last year's awards, NuBreed already have a supreme reputation for one of the most dynamic live shows in Australia. In the UK last year they were nominated for Best New Artist at the BREAKSPOLL awards (presented by BBC Radio One) and came 2nd in that category.

‘NuBreed are one of our favorite breakbeat acts, they are without a doubt one of the most inspiring acts out of Australia’ – The Crystal Method (USA)

Long feted by the likes of Adam Freeland, Hybrid, Sasha, BT, Way Out West & Timo Maas, NuBreed are at the centre of a strong breaks scene. Together they have chalked up an impressive remix resume, with international artists Tiësto & Junkie XL, Scritti Politti, Way Out West, Apex, Skunk Anansie, and most recently the USA’s Crystal Method. The Crystal Method’s single went on to win the Dancestar Award for Best Single at this year’s awards and charted it’s butt off around the globe.

Tipper is one of the most talented Electronic musicians there is and I really want people to go check him out. He makes music that is designed to be played on sound systems, and the stuff he makes is just AMAZING. You have to see it / hear it for yourself. His new DVD , "Surrounded" is incredible. All the songs were produced in Surround Sound and some of his songs feature the LA Symphonic Orchestra. I reccommend watching that movie before going to bed, or after a late night. It just soothes the soul and gives inspiration. I think he is paving way for the next level of electronic musicians. I'm definately making the drive from boston to go see this show and anyone who can make it should be there. It's one of those once in a lifetime experiences that shouldn't be missed.

Respect Galaksy!

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 13TH 2004
POPPIN+LOCKIN : SEVENTH EDITION
ELECTRO : BREAKBEATS : BASS

FEATURING:
TIPPER (UK)
Tipper is a ‘global nomad’ who tours the world non-stop, spreading his musical gospel of unique beats and breaks. As a result, he has loyal followings in out of the way places such as Budapest, Tasmania, Santa Cruz, Bellingen, and Birmingham. His sets consist of his own music for the most part, well prepared and mixed, highlighted at times with his extraordinary scratching. Then there are his legendary bass tones - unfortunate monitor speakers were last seen being carried from the room during a set in Australia once with smoke pouring out of them! You have to hear (and feel) them for yourself to understand (sorry- what?). Tipper’s a proven pioneer, with his production and performance techniques placing him securely amongst the electronic music elite.

The tightly-knit UK breakbeat community are pulling their collective musical muscle to raise money towards the ongoing crisis in Sudan. Long-time breakbeat protagonist Smiley from Shut Up & Dance is co-ordinating the project, calling for tracks to be supplied for a fund-raising CD named 'Sudan Break Beat Crisis'.

Acts already pledging tunes to the project include Aquasky, Audio Bullies, Botchit & Scarper, Freestylers, Plumps, Tayo, DJ Hype, Zinc, Mechanoise, Deekline, Supercharged and Shut Up & Dance.
More top artists are expected to contribute, with all tracks being either brand new or exclusive mixes released for the first time, making it a truly heavyweight compilation. There is also talk of a future fund-raising tour too.

When asked about why he had taken the project on, Smiley said, "We wanted to help these people in this great time of need, and what's good is everyone involved in the breakbeat genre feels the same way.
"The idea came about from a club night at the Audio Club in Brighton by the label Supercharged. They had a one-off night whereby £1 from everyone's entrance fee was donated to the Sudan crisis. I thought it would be a good idea to do something on a bigger scale involving everyone within the breaks scene."

For more on the crisis in Sudan, how you can help and to pledge money, visit: [ www.dec.org.uk ]

I found this online and I think it is definately worth reading.

"State of the Nation"

Recently, our dance movement has been under a fiercly competitive attack from all sides. The once loving family of united party people have apparently begun to faction off into many small groups of promoters/ dj's/ and social scenes. We can't have this! The never ending search for money, success, and prestige can drive nearly anyone down to an all time low. Promoters skip town without paying for services rendered. Cliquish groups of people snub those around them. Innocent party people drive long distances and pay large amounts of money only to find an empty warehouse, or dj's that weren't that were never on the flyer to begin with. Promoters give interviews to the press about our scene in order to turn a higher profit. All of these things and more are going on around us all the time. Obviously this kind of information is a sure fire bummer, but it's these kinds of problems that will eventually destroy our dance nation forever! Many of us believe that this movement is a meaningful one, full of love and good people, NOT a money-making business venture. We have the potential to come together from all walks of life (regardless of race, creed, religion, or sexuality) and unite in mind, body, and spirit. It's up to us to make this happen; without our collective participation, love, trust, and support, we are nothing.

Here are some suggestions from your friends:

Do question the cover charge you pay and where that money goes

Do question the intentions of a party larger than 500 people

Do question your support of negative people, dj's, and promoters

Do question your association with people who only seem to talk about money and/or drugs

Do support a variety of dj's and parties Do know your promoters and who they are involved with

Do know if your promotor pays thier dj's and staff

Do educate yourself and your friends about the drugs you take and all the precautions necessary to protect yourself from harm

Do know your sources well

Do remember to eat, sleep, and drink a lot of water

Do take good care of yourself and your loved ones

Do make at least one new friend every party you go to

Do love and remember

Do forgive and forget

Do remember that if someone tells you something about someone else that isn't very nice, that same person is probably saying something that isn't very nice about you when you're not around

Do question people who take sides and gossip

Do smile often and go out of your way to accept everyone around you

Do share (your love, your thoughts, and your drugs)

Do remember that you are the power of example to everyone around you
We realize that these suggestions may not apply to all situations, however, it is our belief that information can only make us stronger and is yours to take or leave as you like.

please feel free to photocopy and distribute this flyer

Why do you think its all over the place? It is the same style throughout the mix. Some people would say a couple tracks on there are jungle but if you listen to them closely, they are all 140 BPM. It's just so raw that it sounds like jungle. Negative is ok if you can back yourself up.
