Best/cheapest Way To Book Trip Overseas?
Good [+1]Toggle ReplyLink» lakester replied on Wed Apr 7, 2004 @ 2:30pm |
Tamara and I are thinking of travelling somewhere overseas in June. Either the Carribeans or somewhere like Italy.
What's the best way to get the best price? Going into an actual travel agency and booking a package? Booking through Expedia/Travelocity/etc? Advice please :) |

for the Carribean, if you are flexible about dates and destinations you could probably snag a really good deal at the last minute. most of these deals are airfare+hotel packages, which would give you a resort-type vacation..is this the kinda trip you want?
as for Italy, you'll probably want to check around multiples places (the internet, call a few agencies, defitnely try voyage campus) and compare prices. in going to italy i'm assuming you'll probably just be interested in airfare and then staying at hostels along the way? give yourself at least 2 weeks there |

ya, i heard about the last minute deals, but unfortunately the dates aren't flexible :(
for the carribeans, we'd be looking for a resort-type vacation for sure. something with food and drinks included. as for italy, we'd prefer to stay at one place, be it a hotel or a hostel in a private room. i priced a few trips on expedia and it's about $1100-$1200/person to go to a few different places in the carribeans and about $2200-$2400/person for italy (hotel/airfare only). i'm definetly gonna check out voyages campus and see what they have to offer. |

Since it seems like you're more interested in a relaxing, chill type of vacation, I'd say go for the carribean. I doubt theres any one place in Italy thats interesting enough (or worth the money) to spend a whole trip there. Most people who go to Italy are looking to move around a bit, spending a couple of nights each at several destinations (whether on a tour or independantly).
But then again, I'm a bit of a travel snob, so feel free to ignore everything I've just said. |

lol... if we went to the carribeans, it would definetly be to relax. if we went to europe, we'd definetly want to see the sights. to tell the truth, i don't know how large italy is or how far apart all the tourist attractions are. i figured we could stay in one place and take trains/buses to see the sights. |

Italy isn't huge, but it aint tiny either:
You could spend 7-10 days and see part of the country...say Rome-Naples-Florence-the coast...but to see most of the country you'd need at least 2 weeks, and that would be at a fast pace as well. |

the carribean is an AWESOME place to relax, but it's more fun to go in the deep winter... |

K go to Tourism Jeuness on Mt Royal. They'll hook u up with an International Youth ID card, for about $18 so long as yr 25 or under. Then go to any Travel Cuts agency, show em yr card and book the ticket. They give great deals, and that card might save u extra elsewhere. If yr a student tho, get the Int' student ID card, and u can save on LOTS of other stuff like hostels n stuff. |

how long do you want to go for?
packages are good if you are going for a short time cause you'll get around to see a lot via their plan. if youre going for a longer time, say months, def. just book your flight and your hotel/place for the first week. then look for cheaper once you are over there. im bias, ive only ever been to greece but i spent 2 months there and its fucking gorgeous. you could easily spend 7 to 10 days just touring three islands. greece is cheap if you know how to work it, you'll have to negotiate prices for domatias and stuff but you can get by on next to nothing if you dont want luxury. also, dont book via the net unless you are doing a package or the hotel for the week or something. travel agents always have cheap seats available to them, just call everywhere multiple time and ask for quotes. though there are a few good online site, the only real worthwhile ones i find are via the states. also, you could fly to london and then via a shit airline like ryan air to your destination. i booked last minute in the beg. of high season in 2002 (end of juin) on charter from mtl for 1200 to greece. the closer you go to high season, the more expensive it is everywhere. |

you're best option for europe is to grab a cheap flight to either london or paris (i got the cheapest flight with [ www.flyzoom.com ] then grab a no-trills flight like ryanair or easyjet to wherever you are heading....
note: zoom airlines does not have direct flights between london and montreal. the flights leave from ottawa. the flight was almost $400 less then air canada and it will just cost you a little bus fare/gas money) |
