MOONDATA PRODUCTIONS in association with O Patro Vys, CKUT, Envision Management, and Finite Records PRESENT: LABprojects session II a monthly series featuring live improvised collaborations musicians, dj's and vj's Friday February 20, 2004 9:30pm O Patro Vys 356 Mont-Royal Est Session II : ambience & atmosphere / glitches & tweaks Featuring members of: Sevens Project / Bell Orchestre / IKS / ja ne fon dorb / Marlowe / Parkside Jones Projections courtesy of Moment Factory. Catherine Le Saunier - cello Kevin Laing - drums Matt Lederman - guitar Patrick Watson - rhodes / vocals Peter X - bass Ryhna Thompson - trumpet / keys Stefan Schneider - drums Zen Nakamura - laptop electronics laptop DJ set by naw (noise factory records) Treading a slightly different musical path than the first mash-up Dn'B (and very sold out) LABproject show back in January, the upcoming spectacle reunites members of Sevens Project, a small chamber ensemble put together for a multi-media film event at the FCMM/SAT last October. With a cinematic sense of musicality and an acceptance of multiple styles from electronic glitch pop to sweeping soundscape rock to jazz influenced classical, the group is based around the interaction of a core unit of guitar, keys, cello, bass and drums. LABproject organizer and local producer/guitarist Matt Lederman provides the framework of interaction while the rhythmic drive is maintained by LABproject/Moondata regulars Peter X and Stef Schneider. Adding details to the mix is the cello of Catherine Le Saunier, a classically trained cellist currently playing in a variety of groups, most notably with singer/songwriter Jason Bajada. Sweeping in with jazzy rhodes, haunting melodies and gracefully layered vocals is Patrick Watson. A multi-talented musical artist, Patrick incorporates everything from classical to modern electronica, and is a regular composer for films and artistic events. He recently released a solo record "Just Another Ordinary Day" to wide popular and critical praise. In keeping with the mode of the LABproject series of collaborative composition, the night will be fleshed out with extra rhythmic support by Kevin Laing. A multi-instrumentalist, Kevin's open drumming styles currently back the electro-orchestral pop of Marlowe and the post-rock explorations of Kincardine. He was also the drummer and founder of now defunct local experimentalists ja ne fon dorb. Moondata regular Ryhna Thompson will be providing her unique melodic ideas in the form of effected trumpet and spacey keys. Finally, incorporating the required glitches will be laptop performer Zen Nakamura who will be loading samples, tweaking live effects to the performed sounds and improvising with loops and other found sounds. The DJ sets will be performed by another laptop musician, naw. His diverse style touches on many forms of electronic and experimental music. naw has been performing on the national and international scene for many years and has released albums on Noise Factory Records. Visuals and projections will once again be provided by Jason Rodi of Moment Factory. Jason is a local filmmaker and his visuals have graced numerous events, from Cirque Du Soleil to Formula 1, and has produced videos for Bravo, SAT, Muchmusic and more. His documentary, The Eye of the Son, was recently broadcast on several channels across Canada. -30- For more information or interviews, please contact Matt Lederman LABproject producer matt@moondataproductions.com 514-272-4694 |

Big up to the MoonData Productions team; this is what quality events are all about. The last LABprojects is etched in my mind as one of the most memorable parties that I have ever had the fortune of being involved in. I look forward to making an appearance at this and all future LABprojects. |
