Well , i was feeling like starting a new thread...

So , thats me or nobody understand the diference between hardcore and gabber in Mtl ?
Scince there no good source of that kind of music here its easy to be confuse about it...
Gabber is typical kind of 'bad attitude'dance music in fact , around 160 bpm , loud bass drum, cheesy juno like synth, with stupid vocal sample as for exemple: '' thiiiiiiiiiissss iiiiiiiisssssss Haaaaaaaaaaarcore! , feel da bass , this beat kick , extassy , hardcore will never die''

this is gabber style (gabber of the week @ [ www.rige.nl ]

y'know... despite the fact that my site is hosted by [ gabber.org ] - I've never really liked the word. I've always associated it with the cheesier elements of hardcore... the bouncier stuff. The kind of tracks that I quit playing almost 8 years ago.

have you guys ever heard the speedcore/noisecore record that Cybersonik (Dan Bell & Richie Hawtin) cut? Jackhammer/Machine Gun. It's straight up sickness. Kicks off at 140bpm, then doubles up to 280. I think that was pretty much the end of an era for them. Thrash (also Cybersonik), Trac-X (Circuit Breaker) and Annexia (dBx) are still some of the heaviest records I can think of.

The problem with gabber isn't gabber, it's the anthems (i.e. neophyte style). And, I'm sorry, but not everyone has the same mentality, and when you play some fairly subtle gabber and everyone dances, it's still nice to see.

everybody has his own taste.
I love the uplifting cheezy synth. It puts a huge fucking smile on my face. I crave for that booming bass at 160BPM. I fuckin march to that shit!

I just want to say that someone has to stop with anti-gabber elitist attitude. I agree, anthems suck, I hate acid too, but there is good stuff out there. And speedcore has it's place too. Fishead, you may have stopped playing gabber 8 years ago, but people still enjoy it, and there alot of people who started liking cheesy gabber and discovered better hardcore after, so it's serves it's purpose, so stop being so fucking pretentious, you're gonna kill yourself with that kind of mindset. Montrealers hate know-it-alls and ego-trippers, despite all the coke they do, at least I hope...no offense...

thats not my problem if dudes like you are so much suceptible and are unable to laugh about themself. Im not anti-gabber or elitist at all and i dont think Fishead is more.
You can say whatever you want about what you think i may listen and i will just get a good laugh and even diss myself for fun ( see in the previous post: speedcore is like a cd skiping...) .

I said I didn't like the word 'gabber' - meaning, specifically - that I've don't like it when I hear people refer to me as a gabber dj. As I said - I stopped playing that style of music about 8 years ago. I didn't say "I stopped playing it because [insert random derogatory comment]."

For the record... I stopped playing it because I got into techno via industrial... the hardcore coming out on labels like Dead End, Fischkopf, Praxis, Brutal Chud, Six-Sixty-Six and especially Epiteth was more attractive to me... a lot of the Dutch and Scottish stuff was harder and faster dance music. It has, I find, more in common with house music than with the industrial that I cut my teeth on...

Looking up above I don't see anything elitist in my post. I suppose if someone was actively trying to find something of that nature in my words - then they probably could. Why go to the effort, though?

hardcore is the most over used musical term ever.. there is no 1 style of music known as hardcore...

gabber is just the dutch style of hardcore techno..

I certainly don't define hardcore and gabber the same as anyone here... to me gabber isn't necessarily pejorative. I call gabber anything that has a rather skeletal beat and delivers all the classic and recognizable drum machine sounds in one single punch, at no matter what BPM... So in that sense, Nasenbluten's "Cuntface" is definitely a gabber song, as are the (damn good) Kotzaak records. It can be a bit formulaic, so incidentally, the only gabber tracks I like are the "classics", because they were fresh in their time.

What Kriss talked about in his first post was "newstyle gabber", which the most awful garbage to have ever been labeled "hardcore"... fucking braindead marches and oompah melodies... "bring out your feathered hats, straps and salopettes, it's Oktoberfest all year long!" Give us a break you nazi cunts.

I think "hardcore" is a harsher (often faster) form of techno/electro with way more experimentation, and without the arrogant "this-is-the-hardest-music-you'll-ever-hear" attitude. Examples: Épitèth records, Planet Core Productions (the actual label, not the whole family), Bloc 46 (some will argue it's hardtek), Somatic Responses (pre-Hymen), Senical, etc...

As for speedcore: depending on the level of refinement (!) it can be hardcore or gabber... Kriss's more abstract stuff is hardcore all the way, whereas what (shite) comes out on labels like Mascha or whatever is all gabber, with unoriginal use of 909 snares and crashes on every quarter note...

I'm not making any sense, but no one will read this anyway.

I think Kriss pegged it... I've never thought of hardcore as being a genre... and by saying I associate myself with hardcore - and not with gabber - doesn't necessarily mean that gabber isn't a style of hardcore (although - I will say that there's a reason it's often called gabberhouse)... even Rob Gee made the distinction back in the day... "Anyone who says hardcore techno and gabber house is dead - fuck you."

At any rate - back to the approach vs. genre discussion... I've always been of the idea that once you settle on a genre - once it's been given a name and people start defining what it is... then what it *isn't* has been defined as well. Which means that you're now working within confines. Hardcore, to me, involves thinking outside of those confines and taking things in different directions.

granted PCP was an insane label, i have one of them "Free Base International - Futureworld", that is the most puny record you've ever heard. and it's the same PCP label, out of germany, with the mover, and all acardipane's other names..

anyway.. it annoys me when people think they know a style inside out enough to classify it as "crap".. the odds are you've heard a handful of crappy dj's mix 'newstyle' records, and that's enough for you to think it's ALL crap.. when in fact it isn't.. dj promo, armageddon project, peaky pounder, catscan, placid k, void settler.. there's is some incredible newstyle coming out now, that is in my oppinion harder than speedcore..

anyway.. my point is, there are good examples and bad examples of every genre.. so listen without prejudice please.
