I've got three separate long distance phone calls from three separate numbers in Dallas Texas this morning. each person claims that somebody called them last night around 7 PM and left an urgent message on their machine, with MY home phone number, saying to call them back. Apparently these messages were left by DIFFERENT people, some male and some female, urging them to call back MY number, without any specific information or anything. At first it sounded like a telemarketing scam gone awry but after three calls, i can't figure out what the FUCK is going on... frankly I'm a little sketched. On the other hand I can't see what anyone would gain by doing this. Seems like a concerted effort to get people to call my house from Texas.. makes NO sense, can't figure this out... does anyone have ANY ideas what the fuck might be happening? I'd like to think that somebody just fucked up their phone number.. but one person asked for Benjamin -a guy who had left a message on their phone with my number... another asked for Adelle -a woman who had left a similarly uninformative message urging them to call MY number ASAP very important. None of the callers claim to know the individual who called them -just said they were calling back cause it seemed urgent. Normally my paranoia would tell me that in this case someone is trying to fuck with me, but that doesn't seem to be the case: if it was you'd think they'd just call me myself and hang up instead of wasting their time making random longdistance calls to Dallas and leaving messages hoping people might call me. It doesn't seem to be somebody who doesn't know their own number... it doesn't seem to be any sort of workable telemarketing scam that I can figure out.. I'm still sketched though. anyone? opinions?

sometimes that seems like the easy answer. but in this case i dont think anyone is out to get me... makes this all the more confusing.

I got that a few times

for about a week at a time, I'd have random (different) people calling for the same business man.
I think they just got fucked over in a scam and my cell number was the bogus number given out to them because it's a particularly easy number to remember

it's probably something similar in your case

I wouldn't worry about it

maybe it was like 3 different people who are pulling a prank on you....or maybe its like a cult and they all have the wrong number that they were supposed to be directing people to call..like maybe this cults plan was to leave an urget message and when the people call back lure them into the cult..but they all were told the wrong phone number by the leader...maybe the reason all three people had the same number was because they all live in some ranch together outside the city. OR maybe some people have an appt together and just moved in...and decided to prank call people and say its urgent then get them all to call the same random number to creep the people out....OR its a hex.

meh if 3 different people wanted to pull a prank on me they would just call me with fake voices or something. or send me klez or something.

the cult idea though, you're onto something. that's the most plausible explanation i've heard of yet... hahaha. it makes sense more than telemarketing.

Seb.. for your problem, all you have to do is, wait till the machine calls again, then, do a *69 to get there number.. THEN, call 411 and report the number.. they will then contact the people faxing you and tell them to stop..

for steve's incident.. woah.. thats fucked up.. like, why would people from texas call people in the 514?? and umm, since they all asked for different people, it must have been a telemarketer that called THEM once, left a message with your number.. maybe the person just liked using your easy easy cell number steve.. :) he must have left the number, along with a message, on there machine, and they called back..

ya know how many times i pull that kind of stuff to those dumbass americans.. ?? like at least once a day i leave abogus message on a machine with a wrong number for them to call back.. :)

steve seriously some times theives do things like that checking up on you to see if your home....
they tried it with em some bogus plumber called to find out when I was going to be around for him to come in and do work, work no one ever requested... so I decided to tell this person I wasnt going to be home that day so he couldnt come and guess someone tried to break into my apt...
how ever they were met with a crowbar accross the head as they poped thier head through the window...and a few mins later with the cops...
:)
so steve please be carefull there are lots of punks in this city who would be happy to break into your place...

let's pretend for a moment, that Texans are all a little retarded and prone to making mistakes......and that it's Dallas with the 214 area code for the Dallas Metropolitan area......ok you guys are with me so far?......maybe they wanted to call 214 instead of 514 and just pressed 5 instead of 2....it could happen and the rest is in mister schizophreniczarcaustic here....

and that would explain the "Emergency" factor in the calls here........you see where I'm coming with this?.......I thought you would ;)
