I'm not making this up lol...

A couple of months ago, nu-metal stalwarts Korn made a lot of people feel afraid for the future when they released “Get Up!,” a collaboration with brostep avatar Skrillex. Their new album The Path Of Totality is said to be packed with such big-room bassbin experiments. But to hear Korn frontman Jonathan Davis tell it, Korn basically invented brostep.

Talking to Billboard, Davis says, “We were dubstep before there was dubstep. Tempos at 140 with half-time drums, huge bassed-out riffs. We used to bring out 120 subwoofers and line them across the whole front of the stage, 60 subs per side. We were all about the bass.” It’s true! Korn was all about the bass! Stick that in your pipe and smoke it, Kode9!

Davis also takes a moment to paint a ghastly image of what Korn shows look like now: “It’s really cool to see glow sticks at the show, to see dance music culture infiltrating and becoming one with the metal community. At the last show, there was one mosh pit where they were moshing, and another with kids doing glow stick tricks. They were taking turns and shit. I think we’ve opened up a new style that both sides are happy with.” Let’s see if we can get some Twilight obsessives in there too, and just call it a day.

The Path Of Totality is out 12/2 on Roadrunner. Weirdly, there’s another newish metal album out now called Path Of Totality, and that one is totally good. And now let’s all mentally prepare ourselves for the moment when Staind take credit for chillwave.

Every single tune sounds exactly the same. EXACTLY. It doesn't matter that Noisia or Feed Me or anyone else made the tunes with them, because they ALL sound like fucking Skrillex. Noisia's tunes totally don't have that distinctive Noisia sound, they just sound like Skrillex presets.. Same with Feed Me; absolutely none of that Spor-awesome, just "Hey, let's do what Skrillex is doing!".

Fucking disgusting.

hahaha!!! Korn takes credit for Dubstep!? wow ... I'm impressed ... o_O

Honestly, I never liked Korn. When I was diggin' neo-metal it was either System Of A Down or Deftones or Vision Of Disorder -- and even then, those bands were more 'alternative'. I hated Disturbed, Korn, Limp Bizkit or whatever ... garbage! It was just pop-ified metal, seemingly influenced more by Manson than anything else - and a poor mimic at that.

Dubstep isn't just about half-time + bass ... that's a gross oversimplification, and you can't possibly believe that anything with a half beat and lots of bass was a predecessor to dubstep. Y'know what proto-dubstep was? DUB! For fuck's sakes ...

(and if they really did make proto-Dubstep, why do they need Skrillex to make songs with them now, eh?)

Wow! Another person that knew them .. I'm not alone, yay! xD (ps. they were wicked)

wait a minute ... Wally liked neo-metal-ish stuff and Wally makes dubstep now, there are dubstep remixes of Deftones tracks, Korn is having sex with Skrillex .. holy shit! 90s metal really is the missing link between dub and dubstep!

*facepalm*

Touché. I guess I stopped caring enough to hunt down albums from artists i used listen to ten hears ago but

What I mean though is that these tunes used to play on tv and shit... You know back when musique plus actually aired music videos...

Yeah, totally.. Even the crappy metal way back was still kinda good in retrospect.. now everything is all emo and whiny and singing in harmony.. no balls to the metal anymore! It all just seems so friendly and digestible, like you could almost listen to their stuff with your parents.. sounds like Green Day with a bit more distortion..
