sure. the US government thinks it can invade and occupy as many countries as it wants. but it won't last. eventually the bubble will burst, and they'll reap what they sowed.

within living memory, there used to be a saying, "the sun never sets on the British Empire". here's a map of it at it's greatest extent, in 1919:

and where is it now? all the British government has are a few small islands, Gibraltar, and Northern Ireland.

and so it will be for the US. what goes up, must come down.

=) I have some great books on the British Empire that I really have to read again - haven't read em in many many years.

I have this Pax Britannica trilogy by Jan Morris. it covers the era of British colonialism in India and Central Asia. very relevant today. probably some of the best books ever written on the subject

Heaven’s Command: An Imperial Progress
Pax Britannica: The Climax of Empire
Farewell the Trumpets: An Imperial Retreat

and another one I have to dig out and read again. also amazing ->

The pic I posted is from a game (Europa Universalis III). I took out France (and her ally Scotland) early on 'cause I didn't want competition during the colonial era. I had like 30k troops for the entire North America, 120k for Europe alone... Damn the Holy Roman Empire. I started at year 1399. Slow game but fun if you're into geography and history. Haven't played it in a long time since it's so time consuming.

-------

As for the British Empire history, I'm currently into the Victorian Era. Specifically, London lifestyle. I will check out the books you suggested when I have time (and money).
