Some recently produced stuff, 133 BPM. Let me know what you think:

Not bad, your production is fairly good although very safe.

I find your leads and percussion elements stay fairly static throughout the track, some variation would help keep the track interesting.

Also your second main lead seems to be in conflict with your bassline, try moving it up an octave or changing the sound altogether if that doesn't work.

Hi!
thanks for your comments.

I agree with you on most of these points.

I was wondering, do you have any advice for 'grooving' up percussions a bit ? Do you use percussion loops in the background? you add FX to your percs? Or you simply change it all the time ?

Any advice, anything.

peace

Nice track, interesting sounds but It feels like the structure could use a little work. At some points i was kinda wondering where you where going, up or down. The kick is solid but I'd try notching at 450hz a bit, see what that does(450hz is cardboard and who wants that?). About the groove, I know that a lot of peoples will disagree but If you want your track to groove, play it under 130 bpm. Over 130 bmp you loose the hip.
Then try nudging the hihat that keeps the up, the "contretemps" so that its not exactly on the half-time. Try recording live percussion and shakers.
You can create interesting percussive loops by looping just about anything really, from birds to cars to trains.
I add fx on just about anything.

anyways good work, keep it up.
The more tracks you'll make the better you'll get.

you get groove by creating "sub-beats" by varying the timing and velocity slightly of your different percussion elements.

Also try running on things other then 4/4, especially for prog.

I have a fairly solid music background, but when it comes to percussions I'm a perfect n00b.

I really need ( and want) to learn about those.

So Bad_Chemistry, you're saying that you put some of your percussions very slightly off-beats to make it more realistic ? Is that what you mean ?
As for the velocity, you really change it manually on random percussions ?
Sounds like a non-efficient and very time-consuming way to me... ( Altough I don't know really other ways to do it :P )

Sounds interesting.

Databoy,

Very few things about producing music are time efficient
