Just curious...i mean, the more I think about it...People who vote conservatives are generally assholes. They're always very self-centered, often racist and biggoted, and usually ignorant.

Which leads me my next point - at least 30% of Canadians, and 50% of Americans are jerk-wads.

Gotta say I've never met a conservative lad that I got along with. Last one I met was damn convinced that we should cut social programs by at least 70% and reinvest that skrilla in the Iraq/Afghanistan war effort because it is our freedom that is at stake... and he was Canadian... and you don't want to hear the nazi plans he had for homosexuals.

our social and medicare programs are horribly managed... it's not that I think that they shouldn't get the money they are, it's that they are flushing most of the money they do get down the toilet. Quebec has more civil servants than China has population!

and let's take a look at the war on on french languages... do you have any idea how much money is put into knocking down immigrants and forcing people to comply with language laws? that's money that could be spent on something useful!!!

let the shit fly!

I dont think "reducing wasteful spending" or "making social programs more efficient" are what differentiates Left wing and right wing political views.

Those are blanket statements everyone can agree on. The difference is that conservatives simply use those arguements to cut social spending or eliminate regulation all together, while normal people would actually work on streamline regulation and increasing efficiency.

Yar. I support trying to fix it rather than just choking it off.

If funds are being mismanaged, then figure out how to manage them better.

Top 3 area where money should be spent to ensure a healthy civilisation IMO: Education, Heath Care, technological research & development

Teachers, Doctors, and Researchers should be the highest paid people in our society.

there are positive things about conservative philosophy,

social conservatives suck they are against gays and bum sex in general and that stuff rocks as everyone knows

libertarianism is sometimes called a branch of conservative political philosophy...

i like the idea of 'the government that governs least governs best'

Yet we are in need of more doctors and medical staff. I somewhat understand your point, yet you don't back your opinion up with any facts, you just complain and exaggerate.

If you move to France, you're gonna have to learn the language to get by, same here. Deal with it. Only in Canada, do we let everyone in and let em piss on our culture...

In Montreal you can get by with english, but not anywhere else in the province, it IS necessary and it clearly isn't where the bulk of the "wasted" money is going. Take a good look at the amount of wasted money on infrastructures that arent built proper, now THAT's wasted money.

To solve our financial problems the government needs to grow balls and pass laws that will tax the rich more, make tax evasion harder and make sure to enforce those laws properly.

arguing with these people is easy. but far better if you can manage to win them over, and guide them to a more tolerant point of view. some cases are just a write off, and obviously not worth the effort. but it can be done.

As much as I want to believe protecting our language is necessary, I'll be a little more convinced when the general population of QC is a little more interested in it. Usually, when I'm passionate about a particular subject, I invest a lot of time and energy to try and gain more knowledge and skills about it. Yet, I'm constantly exposed to atrociously spoken and written french. Yes french is a hard language to master but I don't believe the provincial government should invest in something people don't seem to keen on learning appropriately or get defensive about.

With our the Liberal government in power in this province, it's never going to happen. We're talking about a government accused of multiple counts of fraud and one which categorically refuses to do any public investigations on a clearly corrupt construction system ( among ther things ).

There are a number of people who identify as fiscal conservatives that I like a whole lot, though I don't agree with them on financial politics. But I could never ever be friends with a social conservative. The two often go together but not always. Isn't "social conservative" a more politically correct way of saying "asshole who would burn people at the stake if it was still the socially acceptable and nonpunishable thing to do"?

Streamlining and making the social system more efficient is a much better option than cutting funds.

Spending money on language policing is stupid, AlienZed, but the government wasn't doing that because they're "socialist". In fact, policing to conserve some sort of cultural/language purity is a conservative thing, isn't it? Literally?

Hehe Strik_IX I am in the same boat with my brother. I love him! But... sigh

It's a good idea to learn the most spoken language of a place when you move there, otherwise you're the one who misses out. But, people should be allowed to put signs in front of their business in whatever language they like. It should be their right to put it in Chinese or Swahili or 10 languages on the same sign if they want to, it's their own business. For other things like municipal signs, they should be in both French and English as those are the most commonly spoken languages and the two national languages. I come from Alberta where, there is a much smaller portion of francophones compared to the amount of anglos here, and still they have french on all their signs. Alberta is not my favorite place but at least they have that right.

& it's good that the government offers free french courses to people who are new here, it should be encouraged. That's not a waste of government funds IMO.
