 Coolness: 140670 | As 2010 nears is end, I, like many others, like to take a moment to look back at the great and not so great moments of the past twelve months. I've got a special treat in stock for you guys but it's a bit more than just a retrospective mix of 2010...
In order for this mix to make any sense, I must first explain how my selection was done. Every week for the past two years and a half (give or take), I go through digital dubstep releases on various websites to try and find the best of the best *. On a normal week I usually come up with about ten new tunes that I enjoy that seem worthy of being burned to a cd. The very first CD was "Dubstep 1" (ain't I creative!) and every subsequent CD has it's own number. Last week, I reached number 100 and thought it'd be reason to celebrate. I decided to create a mix selecting one tune per CD... either a personal favorite or a tune that was influential to the dubstep scene in general **. This makes for a couple of pretty weird mixes but all in all the flow doesn't get broken too often ***. Wally - The Criminal's Wife * : obviously if you do a bit of quick math, 3 years is 156 weeks so I should have 156 dubstep cds but once in a while I'm too broke to buy tunes or there are off weeks where there isn't even 10 decent dubstep tunes that get released! ** : Obviously I couldn't cover all the important dubstep releases for a couple of reasons... first one being that alot of stuff I only bought on vinyl (it'd kinda mess with the whole point of the mix if I threw some vinyl in there) and very often I'd be faced with a CD that had two huge releases and I had to chose only one of em'. Notable absents: Coki - Spongebob Rusko - Cockney Thug Joker - Snake eater Toasty - The knowlege (untold remix) Jakes & Joker - 3K Lane Kode9 - Skeng The bug - Poison Dart Benga - Night Kosheen - Guity (Plastician Remix) *** : One of these cds was lost, the other wasn't well IDed. I had to skip these tunes but I decided to add two of mine as bonus so that there is still 100 tunes in the mix. |
