 Coolness: 36160 | It was party time galore: the 4th edition of Resolution more than kept its promise at the Bell Centre
Montreal, January 7, 2010 – There was electricity in the air on January 1 when over 5,000 people got together to ring in the new year as part of the 4th edition of the Resolution event presented at the Bell Centre. Who was it who said the Holiday period had to wind up on December 31? Certainly not the crowd getting their kicks during 13 hours of incandescent rhythms delivered with a rare energy by the likes of Paul Van Dyk, Above & Beyond, Misstress Barbara, Second Sun, Uppercut and DJ Kal. Lit up by spectacular lighting plans and immense LED screens at the back of the stage, the party night – masterfully fueled by the electronic beat spinning of these masters (and “Misstress”!) of the genre – was a match for every expectation. The only negative point: although the turnout was considerable, Resolution was not a sellout this year, a likely sign that the effects of the recent recession are still making themselves felt. DJs on fire! The 2010 edition of Resolution took off like a shot with a rock-solid set courtesy of the tried and true DJ Kal, who whetted the appetite of the crowd with savvily doled out House rhythms. As is their custom, the two partners in Second Sun then set the dancefloor throbbing with their well-served electronic anthems in live mode. The table was set for a rare Montreal appearance by Misstress Barbara in an event of this scope. She didn’t let the opportunity go by to raise the intensity another notch with a combination of more underground frequencies and irresistible flights, perfectly tailored to the fevered atmosphere that reigned in the hall. The renowned Paul Van Dyk then took the reins, demonstrating with special flair that he’s not the sort to restrict himself to the Trance sounds identified with his early days. Visibly in top shape, the German producer also reminded us that good artists are always ready to try out new ideas. Back after a visit that got a lot of notice at the last Bal en Blanc, the British trio Above & Beyond carried on the proceedings in fine fashion, rousing a smitten audience with the spellbinding rhythms that have taken them to the peak of the international clubbing scene. Finally, Montreal’s Uppercut brought the wild party to an end with one of his sharply hard-hitting sets that only he knows the secret to.
