 Coolness: 685565 | Maturity is a word we've invented now that our society is ruled by morals and laws that are all based on religious repression.
The fact is, humans aren't supposed to live as long as we do; that's why we get sicker and have more organs fail as we get older. Our bodies are hard-wired to reproduce and keep the species going, and these hard-wired genetic instructions to do so turn on when we hit puberty. It's only in the last couple of hundred years that we've had an age on when it was "right" to have sex and have children, and that's because the people who ran things and the people who wrote the laws were all religious. Before that, human life expectancy in the early 20th century was 30-40 years! If you look at it, the jewish Bar/Bat Mitzvah is the age at which you're now of age to provide for yourself and start a family, as now you're an adult. Most people were considered OLD if they were 30 years old, and being 40 you'd be looked at like we see 90-100 year olds today! The only reason people aren't "mature" enough when puberty hits these days is that kids are spoiled little bastards and aren't taught how to be responsible, they're told to just have fun and not worry about things, and they're magically expected at 18/21 to be responsible, get a job, provide for themselves and start a family, but the whole time leading up to that point we're telling them to be irresponsible and to enjoy doing things now that laws don't apply in the same.. So when it DOES come to them being 18-21, they STILL have no sense of responsibility or maturity because they don't know what that is! Honestly, most people aren't mature enough to have kids these days untill they're in their 40s, because they don't know the first thing about being responsible, and even by then most of them won't be good at it, because they're just going to repeat the cycle of not teaching their child how the world works and how to behave. Physicaly, as soon as puberty hits, you're going to want/have sex. Since they will most probably NOT be mature enough to raise a child (thanks to our modern society's views) then hopefully they'll use some form of birth controll. Repression is NOT the answer; saying "you can't have sex untill XX age" is just people avoiding things and leading their children to go down the same road that they went down. So, the proper age to have sex is when your body tells you you should be having sex, but if you aren't prepared to raise a child, then use some common sense and make sure that birth controll factors into the equation! |

And the average age in Canada is 17 If I remember correctly. |
