help me.
Here's the situation. external hdd is kind of fucked 'cause someone didn't safely remove it from the computer.. haha.. anyways, i have 2 'recovery' dubbed folders in it, and I know (or hope) that all my files are still on it since amount of disk space used hasn't changed.. basically, i need a program or a nice person who will make them all magically reappear before i cry. :( As a token of gratitude, enjoy some badassedness: [ www.stupidvideos.com ] love, dee [ www.stupidvideos.com ]

hello,
rescue programs are normally installed before the problem occur so it makes a snapshot of the drive , look for programs that reconstruct the table of content with disk data. and if you do find such things , please fork me the link of such (opensource?) program. anyhoo byebye you could always start by pokeing (dump) the disk in binary... ("dd" is a good tool)
I'm feeling 4hz even if you dont right now.. |

Dee, try to boot your computer with a Linux-on-CD distribution (such as Knoppix [ www.knoppix.org ] or something newer... I haven't done that since about 5 years); you just download knoppix, burnt it on a CD, and boot your computer with this CD. If you can access your files from there, then plug another HDD and recover your data on it, then reformat your HDD and put the data on it again.
If this doesn't work, you'll have to use a data recovery program, such as : [ www.runtime.org ] [ www.recovermyfiles.com ] [ www.datarecoveryuk.co.uk ] [ www.stellarinfo.com ] (i didn't try those, so they might just be demo version or not-so-much working) Your problem looks like the FAT (File Allocation Table) wasn't correctly written, so the computer doesn't know anymore how to access the files. It's like having a huge book in which you can't just look up information by yourself, so you need to use the Table Of Contents, whose pages have unfortunately been partly torn off *infinite sadness*. good luck :P

pay someone, shit like that is too complicated and takes too long for anyone in there right mind to do it for free.
If you have a real close computer whiz friend, consider yourself lucky. Truth is I could do it, but do I have the 14 hours it takes to fully recover an HD, nope. :\ Get a disc recovery utility, you'll prolly have to buy one. You'll need a working HD that has as much free space on it then your entire corrupt HD. The recovery process generally takes a good ten hours or more so be prepared to run it uninterrupted overnight. THEN you'll have to go through what it finds to restore parts, chances are you did lose some stuff, hopefully nothing important. good luck!
