I`m not a big fan of TV, but i do watch the Simpsons and the Daily Show regularly, plus it`s accessible and free, and `divertissant` like they say in french. sadly, it also keeps me (nintendo/tv generation) company in my wee appartment when i`m by myself...
However, now apparently, with some sort of HDTV agenda (claiming quality control), the big wigs are going to cut out all siganls in a month or so so that normal TV antennas will no longer be able to pick up stations, even CTV, Global, and CBS + the local french stations; which i guess means people will be forced to buy into cable or sattelites... So, my questions are: 1. is this true? 2. wtf!?

anything gouvernemental should should still be online tru old airwaves.
that commercial you see is so you get enlisted before this new years licence renewal. i think its only that compagny that claims that, else you would have heard it on tqs , tva ... commercial ones {horror channel , fox) might flip only to digital licences.

i was wondering why i hadn`t heard all about on tv and stuff, but figured they had to keep it on the lown down, not to cause widespread panic :P

well legally they would have to make a public announcement , most of them we pay with your taxes ,
commercial nowaday are made to be very dodgy, beware not to be pulled into a scam . i think that compagny is trying to make its way along bell / videotron. bell & videotron never announced it officially. i dunno like i said, i dont care about tv, its a tool for you to pay their payroll thats all. as for the radio spectrum wars. thats an other story. Update » cutterhead wrote on Fri Jan 16, 2009 @ 2:05am like i said that compagny want to pull customers before the real date : 2011 [ www.ic.gc.ca ] Update » cutterhead wrote on Fri Jan 16, 2009 @ 2:07am WILL THE UNITED STATES TRANSITION, SCHEDULED FOR FEBRUARY 17, 2009, AFFECT CANADIANS?
Canadians using a conventional (analog) television to receive over-the-air broadcast signals from the United States will require a set-top converter box to continue to do so after February 17, 2009. However, all Canadians will continue to receive Canadian over-the-air broadcast signals with a conventional (analog) television until the Canadian transition date of August 31, 2011.

man, they've been anouncing the switch over since early 2005! All TV broadcast is going digital to free up the spectrum for radio-broadband internet. Pretty much you need a digital decoder to decode the signals, or a new TV.

HD for the win !! | |

they mean their switching it all to satellite or cable or TVonDemand, you need a dish and/or receiver and an account. i never heard of having much channels for a 50$ a month , and annual contract mind you with your credit report being cross checked. hope they will stop that. my striped down, with 4 additionnal special channel bundle, cost me 115$ a month, sometimes more but that was with ppv. now this 115 is a little more expensive than what i used to pay with old school videotron. one other thing, videotron can still make analog signals go thru their cable as it doesnt affect the airwaves. now what valid reason is there for that, have you ever used your videotron cable and hook it up to your radio antenna ? they have a complete low fy network that is finnaly payed and working, nwo they want to remove this ? i dunno videtron didnt claim squat on this issue, but i feel like this is money mongers.
