Sound Technician / Sound System Set Up Advice

| Hi all, I'm looking to complement a decent sound system built into a venue with two TOPS to add some highs. Here's my problem, I am not a sound tech, I am 95% confident I could figure it out, being a common sense 'male end goes into female end' kind of person. But really, how is my expertise in sex going to help me this time? Get it?! nevermind...
anyway, this isn't a joke, I really need two tops and need to make sure I can plug them into an existing system. Situation could be two TX-4s
plugged into their own amp rack, which itself would be connected to another amp/console. I'd need two XLR cables going from the mixer to the main console and for that signal to feed through to the TX-4's amp.
Is this all going to be lickidy split or am I expecting the impossible?
thank you!!
btw, if you're a sound tech, I can hire you to help me set this up.

| Pretty much all you need to know about plugging in a simple pa system: [ www.yamaha.com ]
Seems like its directly taken from the Yamaha Sound Reenforcement Handbook.
Good luck (make sure everything is in phase) |

| im guessing that top is active... so im pretty sure the console has more than one output... you just plug the main PA (amp rack) on one of the outputs, and the other one on the speaker...
then you can control the volume the main PA and your speakers independently... if there is no integrated compressor on limiter on your secondary speakers you can play safe and put em a lil less loud...
anyways, im no expert... just throwing around some ideas... what do you guys think? |

| Either you need an other power amp, or you can plug directly into the tops that are already there, as long as they are passive also. But that will bring down your total volume and up the ohmage (gotta check that it is compatible with your power amp.). Update » databoy wrote on Thu Jan 15, 2009 @ 12:58pm You will need enough cable to plud it all in, you have to know what type of conectors go out/throu the speakers that are allredy there.
When plugging it all in, you have to keep everything in phase. Depending on witch direction your speakers are facing, if they are all in the same direction, you have to plug red with red black with black, if they are facing the speakers alredy there, you inverse the phase (red/black)).
The thing you want is for all of your speakes working in the same direction (push/pull).
hope this helped Update » databoy wrote on Thu Jan 15, 2009 @ 5:25pm Get in touch with the technical director |
