On January 10th, from 12h to 18h, Danse Québec and Malik Shaheed invite Quebec’s youth to an important gathering
relating to the campaigns Racism Stop It! and The Mathieu Da Costa challenge. The day will consist of video production workshops, drawing workshops and an autograph session with our guest celebrities. The first edition of this youth event will be held at the Holiday Inn Midtown (420 Sherbrooke W.) and is destined to kids ages 9 to 20. The spokesperson for the event is no other than Sans Pression, a veteran of the hip-hop scene. The event will also welcome a special guest, Ale Dee, who is K.maro’s new protégé.

Malik Shaheed is a Quebec personality well known in the youth entertainment industry (ex VJ at MusiquePlus). He is also very implicated in community activities: « The main goal of this event is to prepare the kids for the national video contest Racism STOP IT! and the Mathieu Da Costa challenge. These public awareness activities can motivate youth to use their differences to come together through workshops that include video production, written
compositions and drawings », says Malik Shaheed.

In preparation of the national video contest For the video production workshop, the kids will have two hours to explore the multimedia world; half an hour for the introduction and detailed description of the activity, half an hour to compose a text about how to counter racial
discrimination and racism, and finally an hour will be dedicated to filming. The kids will have access to professional equipment in order to prepare their
interview simulation and test their technical capabilities.
The national video contest Racism STOP IT! is part of the annual March 21st campaign, a campaign promoting the fight against racism in Canada.

On your mark, get set, color…
The drawing workshop will guide you to another challenge, Mathieu Da Costa’s challenge, who was the first Black man to set foot in Canada and who worked on Samuel de Champlain’s ship. It’s an opportunity to let kids
exploit their creative talents in order to discover how individuals from different cultures have contributed to make Canada the country it is today. Kids will be
supervised by a professional artist. He will be teaching them different drawing techniques and writing expressions in order to better prepare for the contest.
The Mathieu Da Costa challenge is an annual writing and drawing contest. Launched in 1996 by the Department of Canadian Heritage, the challenge encourages youth to discover to what point cultural diversity is a common
denominator in the shaping of our de history and of our society in Canada.
