from the wikipedia entry on "junglist"
lmao [ en.wikipedia.org ] --> "During the time of Junglists, they were also some times referred to as "rude bwoys" a slang term originally used by Jamaicans (as rude boy), meaning "gangsta" or "badbwoy" ("bad boy"). Certain tracks made references to the "original rudebwoys" or "original gangstas" as denoting particularly respected junglists. Most members of this sub-culture took great pride in the music created by jungle producers." | |
I'm feeling sympathy for empathy right now.. |

Jesus tap dancing Christ. there is an awful lot of ignorance about where jungle music came from, and the origin of the term "junglist". there are so many excellent sites that clearly outline the evolution of the music, so there is no excuse for this Jafakin nonsense. "junglist" originally meant a resident - more specifically, a politically affiliated gang member (rudeboy) - of the notorious Tivoli Gardens district of Kingston Jamaica. This was known as "the Jungle" Dee jays at soundclashes would give a shout out to the "junglist posse" in the crowd. In the early 90s, Rebel MC, among others, started sampling this and incorporating it in breakbeat hardcore / raggacore tracks that would soon become known as hardcore jungle. This music scene had *nothing* to do with how the rudeboys in the Jungle were living. it is just a clever sample. Rudeboys in Jamaica were too caught up busting off shots and listenin to dancehall reggae to give two shits about what the London acid house/hardcore techno rave scene was doing. L |
