It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the end of our weekly techno soirées at Les Passages. Due to uneven attendance, noise complaints and increasing differences with the management, we have decided to end it on good terms and on a high note. For over a year now we have strived to provide quality underground electronic music and I think that in hindsight I can say that most Thursdays you could drop by Les Passages and hear some of the best minimal or experimental techno in town. Our uncompromising nature and refusal to play commercial music was our strength but also our weakness. That being said, many of you know that it led to many great moments, when our little living room on Rachel Street suddenly turned into full-fledged acoustic-cinematic research lab or when the dancefloor lit up for those late-night 3am to 4am dance sessions. For those moments I thank you. I’ve been privileged to play with some fantastic djs and extend a special thanks to my partners and resident djs Alexis Bowles, Fancyfhreek, Jan Pienkowski, and Deebacc. Playing by your side has taught me a great deal and I walk away with invaluable experience. Thanks to the musicians who have played with us in the last year : Mateo, Baya and Olivier, D-Outcome, Linda Shaker, Jason Christopher, David Fafard, Christian Thibault, Stephen Beaupré, Milos, Euterke, Mightykat, Michel Lloyd, Philgood, Sarcastic, Son of Jacob, Rootsloops, Freeken, Dave O’Brien, Kane Roth, Banditos, DJ ///, E-teb, Gwen-DJ, Sarath Pereira, and Poison Arrow. A special thanks to the Archipel crew, Pheek, Jesse Voltaire, Le Cantin, for their inspiring beats and unyelding support and also to our two resident vjs Pink Rubber Lady and L’Agent-Jacques, who always knew how to set the mood. Finally, a note of thanks as well to the great staff of Les Passages, who have been the most gracious of hosts. The timing of this is right as all of us move on to new projects. With Alexis’ return to Montreal the crew is back together and inspiration is afoot. Running a weekly event requires much time and energy which we are all eager to channel into other endeavors. Keep an eye on us and watch this space and others for future musical projects which will soon be forthcoming. I hope many of you will show up this Thursday as we hope to go out with a bang! Hope to see you there… Chers amis, C’est avec beaucoup de chagrin que je vous annonce la fin de nos sessions musicales hebdomadaires aux Passages. À cause d’une baisse d’achalandage et des différences grandissantes avec la gérance de l’établissement, nous avons décidé que le moment était propice pour terminer en beauté et passer à d’autres projets. Pendant plus d’un an, nous avons garanti une musique recherchée, un son underground électronique de qualité. Je crois bien que chaque Jeudis on pouvait se rendre aux Passages et y trouver la meilleure musique minimale ou techno en ville. Mais notre sélection sans commercialisme et sans compromis fut autant notre force que notre faiblesse. Cela dit, certains d’entres vous ont été témoins de ces moments clés ou notre petit salon confo sur Rachel se transforma en terrain d’exploration sonore ou visuel, ou alors de ses soirées au dancefloor enflammé à 3h du matin. À tous ceux et celles qui ont contribués au succès de ces soirées, un grand merci. Je me sens très privilégié d’avoir eu d’aussi bons partenaires et je dois un énorme remerciement à Alexis Bowles, Fancyfhreek, Jan Pienkowski, et Deebacc, qui m’ont poussés dans de nouvelles directions musicales et sans qui ces soirées n’aurait pas été possibles. Merci à tous les musiciens et djs qui se sont joint à nous pendant la dernière année : Mateo, Baya et Olivié, D-Outcome, Linda Shaker, Jason Christopher, David Fafard, Christian Thibault, Stephen Beaupré, Milos, Euterke, Mightykat, Michel Lloyd, Philgood, Sarcastic, Son of Jacob, Rootsloops, Freeken, Dave O’Brien, Kane Roth, Banditos, DJ ///, E-teb, Gwen-DJ, Sarath Pereira, ainsi que Poison Arrow. Une mention particulière à l’équipe Archipel : Pheek, Le Cantin, et Jesse Voltaire pour leur musique inspirante et originale, ainsi qu’à nos vjs résidents Pink Rubber Lady et L’Agent Jacques. Ces derniers ont su créer avec finesse un atmosphère chargé et chaleureux. Finalement un grand remerciement au staff incomparable des Passages, qui nous ont accueillis avec charme et amitié. Le temps et venu pour nous de passer à d’autres projets. Gardez-nous à l’œil car nous préparons avec un regain d’énergie nos prochaines aventures musicales et artistiques. Présentement, nous avons pleinement l’intention de finir en beauté et j’espère que plusieurs d’entres vous serons parmi nous ce jeudi pour notre soirée de clôture.
