Accidental Discovery Durring Brain Surgery Totaly Reverses Memory Loss

A 50 year old man, dangerously obese, goes to the hospital for experimental brain surgery to suppress his appetite. A small piece of his skull is removed, and an electrical probe inserted deep into his brain tissue. It reaches his hypothalamus and current is switched on. Suddenly the patient -- awake through the procedure -- begins to speak uncontrollably about events in his past, events he had long forgotten. He remembers a day's walk in the park 30 years ago, complete with what people were wearing, all in vivid color. He sees them speaking to him, every motion they made. The intensity and level of detail of the memories is frightening. |

| The part that I like is that it makes learning happen way easier/faster.. Just implant one of these "brain pacemakers" and sit a person down infront of a TV and play educational videos/do it yourself videos, etc..

| yeah this is interesting :) but we have yet to see whether what's learnt with this process remains well even after the "brainmaker" is shut down ; and also, whether this gained information is manageable by the brain in the same fashion as "normal" information... i mean, how the brain stores and uses memories, with dreams, associations, etc...
hmmm i might let my research field step in this area :) |

| Well, the article says that the memory degenerates back to normal once the stimuli is shut off. So it's not a perfect solution. But as a "pacemaker" for patients with memory loss, it can give you the right jolt when needed.
Now, if they could find a way to start this little buzzer only when needed (when the patient suffers from an attack), this would do amazing things. |

Whenever you're in the middle of a test; when ever you're in the middle of a conversation, and you can't remember the answers... Pushing a little button which could allow you to remember anything and everything would be totally sweet. |
