The Corporate Catch 22

It occurred to me today whilst engaged in a conversation with several of my coworkers that, though not for the first time surely, I had stumbled upon an all too familiar corporate catch 22. Upon further review of this said loop, I then wondered how many other young, autonomous worker bees out there in their own respective corporate hives also stumble upon these realities, greeting them first completely dumfounded and speechless, then growing to ultimately greet them with utter distain, loathing and bitterness.

The types of catch 22`s I am describing are for example HR policies, being open door, yet not responding to helpful suggestions on the subjects of employee benefit improvements (the proverbial suggestion box which is actually just a slotted cover for a trash bin). Or bosses that advise employees to email questions to them anytime, then having an automated message responding to the email which is obviously out of date, because it was set a year ago (maybe the blackberry was a bit of an unnecessary overhead after all eh? You prehistoric git!!!)…

I cant help but wonder why the modern workplace allows for such inefficient practices to exist, other than the fact that they do because of over-aged, out dated and unready to retire management faculties.

Does anyone else feel this way? I mean, you try and help a company you work for to manage its time or resources better because they ask you to, but then they don’t even listen; then why pretend to be listening? How can you expect this to actually improve the workplace? If not just for your own selfish preferences than at least for you worker comrades, are said improvements so impossible?

But alas, today’s modern business world’s motif of high profit, low spending, cut corner industries are more deaf and blind than ever. Ironic considering the potential for synergy and improvement in the workplace has never been as great, if not just for the amount of communication options available to modern business and or the ultimate ease of information exchange…

Anyone?

Ufot-what was too serious for why when who showed up where?

Yah...i know what you mean. Apparently they're suppose to be simple inefficiencies of the management structure and the oversight structure. And something about the cost of monitoring not equal to the benefit. And something about incentives not being aligned fully. Some combination of the two.

If you fix the problem, the person who's job it was to fix the problem is out of a job.

It's more profitable to treat something than cure it.

it is true that bureaucracy is the mother of all employers, but to what end? What use is great advance incumbered with great regression? How does one step foward stay forward if it is followed by one step back...

There in lies the corporate catch 22

Yeah but again, sucking the devil's cock can be tricky seeing as have to e-mail your supervisor about it and and he/she replies back that you have to ask another department for that which, in turn, tell you you have to fill a form and send it through internal mail to another department you never knew existed in your company only to get a call back from them telling you it's the wrong form because this one's been outdated for years and your supervisor should have the recent ones at his desk under that paper tower that's been piling up for weeks since he/she's been running back and forth doing several things at once despite his job description not mentioning any of that but hey, if he/she doesn't do it, who the hell else will ?

welcome to business in Quebec.

a case study in things not working properly. Every single person i talk to from out of proving is amazed how things just don't work here. I blame it on the french. Too busy growing facial hair.

Yes. Facial hair is the reason we are so ineffective. Even our razors don't work properly.

Me, I don't blame the french. I blame blood sucking powermongers regardless of what language they speak. We just happen to suck more blood here.

hey i love french people as much the next guy. Doesn't mean they aren't completely incompetent when it comes to business. There is a reason every head office moved out of this province. Cheap hot dogs really isn't enough to run an economy.

Yeah but that doesn't explain the flurry of english companies moving here or have moved here. Do they find our ineffectiveness appealing ?

well when your competition is mildly retarded , i suppose there are opportunities. I'm sure the government has provded some incentive for non idiot people to set up shop here. But i can assure you, the head office won't be here.

Good point. How do you explain Cirque du Soleil then ? Why would a bunch of french, thus dumb, people want to set up shops across Canada and the U.S. ? And if english people are so damn smart, why do they let them ?

I don't think there are incentives from the government to open busniess here. I'm starting to think you english people actually LOVE being immersed in retardedness. You just can't bear to admit you love the suffering we put you through. That would make you either A. masochists or B. masochists who like to pick on retards.
Update » v.2-1 wrote on Thu Jan 31, 2008 @ 12:25am
Or rather A. masochists or B. people who pick on retards.

I'd prefer to think it's option A because B would just make you just as worse as us poor mentally challenged french people.

Just admit you love us, already.

your stupid argument could apply to almost all western countries.

you seem extremely close-minded and ignorant. you are categorizing people based on your own little scale of values.
have you experienced travels and other cultures in your life? maybe that could help you.

and if you hate living in quebec and french speakers you should simply move the fuck out of canada you moron.

i don't hate french people at all. As a whole , they are just really dumb. More so the males. Sure some ok ones pop up here and there , but on average , in my 27 years on this planet, i can confidently say french people are missing a few screws. It is actually heartbreaking for me to make this generalization. I've spent so many years trying to see things from their perspective and change my view but i just can't. Go live anywhere else for a more than a year and you will see how a province should function. Not that montreal doesn't have its good things. I just wouldn't want to start a business here.

Business in Quebec is pretty demented. A lot of places seem like they are run by children who ended up with the job with no qualifications.

wrong country moron

look i grew up here , i consider this place my " hometown " so in no way am i biased. I speak impreccable french and you can't tell that i'm english. It is just a fact. Spend a year or more in any place west of Quebec and there is no fucking way you can deny the difference in how things are run. Customer service is not in the french dictionay. Local business should count their lucky stars that the general consensus outside of Quebec is that running a business in here is more painfull than getting fisted by a concert pianist and thus the shitty tores here can stay in business. It is pathetic that a city of 3 million offers less selection than cities of under a million.

This place has been fucked in the ass by idiot french people. The only difference between now and the Montreals prime prior to the 80s was that the french didn't own and run most business. You guys have run this place to the ground. But even after all that , i don't hate you.
