Dubstep isn't dub music, but is certainly influenced by dub.

It could be if any of the dubstep producers were into sampling dub more often. I'm wondering if the band Pole's sound is dub or not for instance, and whether or not they had an influence on dubstep.
I'm feeling jaded right now..

i can agree with the dub influence and all that, sure... i was listening to that new pinch album that was cut in two parts (its called underwater disco i believe). there is a vocal version and an instrumental one as well, or maybe its all the same album, im not sure?

the point is... as the eleventh person who listens to... that is the closest actual "dub" in dubstep i've heard!

any other producers makin this stuff?

listen to Sine Of The Dub by Kode 9 & Space Ape... the influence is hard to miss. The whole HyperDub catalog is pretty much loaded with heavily dubbed out cuts... but that one takes the spliff.

im down with kode 9 and space ape...

i took this from wikipedia, for lack of my own refined eloquence:

Dub is a form of Jamaican music, which evolved out of Reggae in 1960's Jamaica. The dub sound consists predominantly of instrumental re-mixes of existing recordings and is achieved by significantly manipulating and reshaping the recordings, usually by removing the vocals from an existing music piece, emphasizing the drum and bass frequencies or 'Riddim', adding extensive echo and reverb effects, and dubbing occasional snippets of lyrics from the original version.

so, based on this description... dubstep isnt dub music. its influenced by it, but probably more influenced by reggae and dance hall.

maybe im just noroctic that way, but why is it even called "dub"-step in the first place?

bah, whatever. for better or worse, its all just music!
