Hi there folks a lot of you folks know that I am a bike courier here in Montréal? Well what I want to talk to you all about is something that I see as being a danger to all of us if where are not aware of it. Now you might be asking what this is all about. As people might have noticed that city of Montréal has kindly put in a bike path that runs down De Maisonneuve? I am all for biking and I am glad that the city of Montréal is waking up to the fact that we need more of them. Now what I have a problem with bike path that runs though the downtown core is that there is no safety for us rider or you sheep(sorry that is what I call people when I am biking around for most of u just don’t look where you are going and fallow what is in front of you). The bike path in question is not even open yet and there have been now 2 crashes that I know of and one of them being my own. The problem that I see happening is that there is a no barrier to stop people from wandering into the path it’s self. You will be having bikes moving @ high speed (even though the speed limit on these paths is to max 20 kms). Personally I don’t want to see anyone else hurt by being in the wrong place @ the wrong time. So when you are down town just be aware of the possible danger that you might be in by just crossing the path.

Just my thoughts on things

Lee

hope you didn't hurt yourself too bad. Now the fact that it is not open yet might have something to do with the accidents no ? if we had barriers here we'd need tunnels for pedestrians to cross the road :) people look for cars before crossing roads I don't see why it wouldn't be the same with bikes.
just my thoughts too.

Well as of now the bike path is not open ..officially
me i was smoked by a another bike courier we had a head to head crash(hence way i am off 4 weeks and in a lot of pain right now)
just that if someone had stepped off it would have been them & not me that would have been hit...
i am just saying that having a barrier on the side walk will stop people from coming into the path
Also folks please don't be mad @ me for calling you sheep, just that i deal with crowd 5 days a week @ high speed and people do the dumbest thingz
I just wanted to make people aware of a possible danger

For us bike couriers it gets scary @ times.. you might ask the courier that is right now @ Montreal general hospital in ICU because a moving van smoked him this past afternoon

I just don't want what happened my buddy Mike ...some woman step out in front of him and she was hit ...2 weeks in a coma and then later passed away...

just saying to people becareful... yes i know you might all laugh @ me , but ...
I'm feeling ubur sore..ouch!!! right now..

my hats off, I used to ride on a bike at trois rivieres, but the city is made for that, heck it was even named among the top 10 best cities for bicyles in the world.

But MTL ? brr I sold my bike to my bro and he loves it, but I always get a shiver when I "release" him after being completely weeded out and knowing he has like 10 km to go.

You need to get big spikes that come out of the wheels that will dismember any passing sheep, shear them, and make a soft sweater out of the wool. And a combine attachment so that head-ons turn into body harvests... and lasers everywhere so it's all like PZZING WING PYYYYONG knowhati'msaying? That would be dope.

Actually lasers kind of go MMMMMMMMMMMMZZZZZZZZZ. But it's just the motor making that sound.

After 9 years, I figure you should get used to hazards, I meanm look forward a few undred feet and anticipate. You may be fast and all, but not up to code safety-wise. Every week you tell us about another crash. Don't get me wrong, I kinda appreciate you as a rave-waver, But I courried for a little while, (2 summers and half of the winter in between) and nevah crashed, not to mention the years in between 95-2001 where I biked everywhere, at high velocity most of the time, and drunk/high whatever. I recall ceashing once or twice.

stop calling peds sheep, and see them as majority, anticipate and stop looking at yo front wheel.

peace,
Mark

You're right, so you gotta get used to their behaviour after 9 years of hitting one every week.
When I said "stop calling peds sheep." I meant, recognize your inability to avoid them instead of calling names.

That said, I agree that most peds, especially those in a pack of 3 take up too much space and can't navigate our streets proper. Witch baffle me, I mean a schools of thousands of fishes manage not to bump into each other in x-y-z axis, while most of pathetic humans bump each other in a x-y axis. Sucks, but I reiterate : GET USED TO IT:) and adjust your long range sensors accordingly:)

Oh and Lee, heal up nice dude. I have nothing against you whatsoever...:)

i think that bike path is sorta retarded

it cuts through alleys and takes up a huge amount on de maisoneuve

hell, i would bike there just yet, i see trucks using it to make deliveries. that seems like death to me

hopefully they sort that out
