Chopped And Screwhead

 Coolness: 685560 | I got this idea after reading a post by Intoccabile on mtldnb, in a thread about a dubstep remix of Bad Company - The Nine..
The relationship between dubstep and jungle / drum and bass reminds me of what happened in the mid-nineties with jungle and dancehall... when every dancehall hit was remixed jungle stylee.
So, I took a bunch of DnB tracks that had long, bassy breakdowns and weird half-time beats, slowed it all down from 170-ish to 140bpm and chopped and screwed the fuck out of it all, then mixed it all back together into what I guess is a close aproximation of dubstep. I also threw in a few other remixed goodies, just because I love remixes so much. Screwhead - Chopped and Screwhead (sendspace link while waiting for Noah to sort out the music uploading problems..) | Coolness: 685560 | well this is officially my most succesful mix so far, it's got like a 3 page thread on dogs on acid and not one hater! (the no hater thing is the most mindblowing one, considering it's: bootleg remixes of classics, dubstep-ish, and mixed in ableton, pretty much all the criteria for getting treated like Milas over there!) |

| Coolness: 685560 | well, it depends on which ones.. Some of them, like The Nine and Chaos Theory, I added the delayed drums.. What I did for the most part, instead of using whole tracks, is take out just the parts that had long, bass-y breakdowns with very little else, and add those reggea/dub-sounding drums (along with slowing everything down from the 170-ish range down to 140)
Some of them, like Messiah and Guntalk, I took some parts that also had weird beats in the original and worked with that into new rythms and running it through the dblue Glitch plugin.. And the Gein tune, Solace, I just shortened the intro and slowed the whole thing down.. most of them are barely using more than 4 bars of the original, or just little bits from parts with little/no drums.. It's not really full, complex remixes, just chopped out bits with some drums layered over. |
