I all. I was wondering where to start.
I'll move withing a year and will certainly need a new job. I was thinking about becoming a bartender (may take more than a year, I dont know). I find the job pretty interesting for all the social/party/music/alcool aspect. Does anyone has some infos about how to become a bartender? Where to should I start?
I'm feeling good right now..

I recommend you move your ass REALY quickly, cause otherwise you have to wait until September.

make friends with ppl who work in bars...

get them to hook you up...

i've alway been under the impression that most of those bartending schools are a scam to get you to force all your friends to come out to some super crap bar that makes you pay to bartend for them.

if you really want a good bartending job your much better off putting your money towards a set of fake tits and a tight t-shirt.

Wrong impressions. One of the place to make the biggest payroll on tips is banquets. Especially ones that are open bar.
And especially the ones that are on the high end. (ie. Queen E.)
They only hire with a diploma or a fuck load of experience. That's where you want to end up. It's not as steady as Bars, but the bottom line is way better, so that means you get vacation instead of working your ass off for that same pay.

so true ehahaehae. 1st,me i made a course at a place during 2 weeks. But after that ,don't expect find something nice as your 1st job. You'll have to work in shitty bars,to make your experience. And 1st step, don't give your cv to the bartender there they'll think you try to take their job.Try to know who's the manager. You'll see that bartending looks fun but depends of where you were ,could be a really competiting job stupidly .

I'm a bartender at a reception hall. I usually do big italian weddings and the tips you make from one night is pretty damn good.

I didn't go to bar-tending school though... I just basically started working as a busboy and would stock the bars for the bartenders. I got to watch how they worked, and got to know the alchohol better. I just studied how to make a lot of drinks and stuff on layering, and started serving people when there were rushes. Now I serve alone and my boss is going to be paying for my bartending school this summer once I'm done classes.

One thing though, if you can't drink, don't become a bartender. Especially if your working in higher end places, if somebody offers you an expensive shot, your gonna have to take it. It's insulting to some people if you turn down a glass of Cognac XO, or something like grey goose that is usually pretty expensive.
I'm feeling sick :( right now..

id suggest start working as a server in one of these corporate restaurants ( ie: cage au sports, kelsey's, st. hubert bbq), they hire just about anybody and if you show any interest in wanting to become a bartender, if they need it, they will let you. i used to work for kelseys, i worked in kitchens my whole life, then i asked to start working in the front to see what it was like. they started me as a server, i asked them if i could start working at the bar and they had no problem with it.

in my opinion work as a bartender and working in the kitchen are the same in many ways. going to school doesent really guarantee you will have a great job or the great shifts. you have to prove to your boss that you are better than the rest. you have to be able to move fast, remember orders, and almost more importantly, remember repeat clients and what they usually order (depending on the places you work)

just work hard at it, but remember, there are many years ahead of you before you get where you want to be, just keep at it

either its because she has such a great memory, or its just that i think she's really starting to like jameson too. i prefer the second answer
