I intend to read a whole lot of books this year. So I need some help, in finding new books to read.

Here's how it works.

Title
Who it applies to
Synopsis

I'll start with,

Christopher Moore's The Stupidest Angel
Applies to: Fanboys, fans of The Return of the Living Dead

The fun story of a boy who witnesses a Santa Impersonator being murdered, an angel who grants a bad wish (to bring Santa back) and a horde of zombies, led by said Santa, hellbent on devouring the little town of Pine Cove, residence of a bunch of very interesting characters, including the sheriff's wife, a retired "xena-like" actress who seems to get more and more into her role, leaving sanity behind.

You also get a creepy fruitbat in the mix.

It's weird, it's humourous and it's coherent.

Your turn!

coherent?.... not to sure... nevertheless

fav novels and short stories

-1984... this is kinda obvious so I wont emphasise on it

-le joueur (dostoyevski)...

applies to... errrr people interested in the human psyche of someone deply addicted to gambling

synopsis (this aint a movie so I doupt the word synopsis applies but whatever): whereabouts of a man addicted to gaming
(now this is a quite simple story but it is an amazing journy into the human psyche... not for everyone of course but it remains, to me THE most profound short story ever I've ever read)

-crime et chatiment (crime and punishment) again by that crazy russian dostoyevski...

applies to... once again people interested in psychology... a bit emo at times but...

another visit into another type of human psyche... this is much longer and implies much more dedication but it does pay off... the story is not complex, its about a man who kills a woman who he know desirves to die but then is driven to madness by the remorse of his perfect crime... the psychology of the main character is quite complex and its a very introspective novel... you have to be ready to read like 500 pages of a guy going progressively insane... hard to read but very much worth it

there are a bunch of other ones.... but now i feel like reading so... heh thats is for today
I'm feeling a storm brewing right now..

Great!

Yes, synopsis isn't the right word. My apologies: been absorbed a bit too much, in the screenwriting process/jargon.

Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451 was a good book too, reminiscent of 1984 in some ways.
Applies to: Fans of the plausible future.

The story is very simple. The world is taking every bit of political "incorrectness" and getting rid of it. In the near future, where houses are fire-proof, firemen have taken on the responsibility of burning illicit material.

The world is bland, TV's only shows are inane and without any trace of any sort of statement whatsoever. The world is free of discrimination... but at a price. And in the middle of this is Guy Montag, whose curiosity for books set in motion a whole lot of change for his wife, his neighbors and himself.

How to Good-Bye Depression: If You Constrict Anus 100 Times Everyday. Malarkey? or Effective Way?
applies to: everyone with a navel

This book is very, very funny, although it's probably best as something you flip open at random as opposed to something to bring on the bus. The Wikipedia article describes it well:

edit: pic of the cover: [ www.rave.ca ]

and the book description from Amazon, which should give you a good idea of the writing style:
---
I think constricting anus 100 times and denting navel 100 times in succession everyday is effective to good-bye depression and take back youth. You can do so at a boring meeting or in a subway. I have known 70-year-old man who has practiced it for 20 years. As a result, he has good complexion and has grown 20 years younger. His eyes sparkle. He is full of vigor, happiness and joy. He has neither complained nor born a grudge under any circumstance. Furthermore, he can make love three times in succession without drawing out.

In addition, he also can have burned a strong beautiful fire within his abdomen. It can burn out the dirty stickiness of his body, release his immaterial fiber or third attention which has been confined to his stickiness. Then, he can shoot out his immaterial fiber or third attention to an object, concentrate on it and attain happy lucky feeling through the success of concentration.

If you don't know concentration which gives you peculiar pleasure, your life looks like a hell.

I'm feeling awake right now..
