I know people who've done much worse (ie: sat in the boss's chair naked when he wasn't around, took a photo and left it on the boss's desk to see the next day as a joke) without getting fired or even threatened.

The only cameras at my work belong to my colleagues and I which might seem slightly ironic. I actually used to work at a company doing computer work & collections a few years back that had video camera's monitoring their employees all the time. Needless to say I didn't appreciate the implication that the owner had no trust whatsoever in his employees so after a few months I found myself a much better job working for someone who paid me much better and didn't feel the need to spy on my colleagues and I constantly. Obviously the need for security is important when running a big business but I think that eventually it gets to the point where your employees don't function as efficiently as they could because they feel uncomfortable knowing that they're not even trusted by their own employer with any confidence whatsoever. Like fine, you wanna put a security camera in your reception lobby that makes sense, but to have them in every office is ridiculous and doesn't increase the security of the business. People were'nt allowed to bring their cell phones in the office, nobody was given any internet access aside from a few select sites which were unblocked, the computers didn't have cdroms so you could listen to music while you work but apparently the reason had to do with the owner not wanting anyone potentially installing anything onto the network, Everyone had to get their prints from the owner's office cause he wouldnt give each department their own printer... it was honestly retarded and from my experience, employers like that go through a high changeover in staff quite regularely because their exagerated preemptive security measures let their employees know right away that they'll never be fully trusted, therefore the opportunity for advancement is rare if any. Anyways, I'd never want to work for someone again who I know didn't have full trust in me to do my job, be responsable, and act civilized within the confines of a business office environment.

I remember several years ago I went into work after a long night of drinking.. I ended up puking in my bosses trashcan and laying dead on his floor for an hour (he wasn't there that day).. it was kinda funny though cause other workers went about their day completely ignoring me.

LOL!... those stories are classic
My boss now has a good sense of humour so I could get away with certain pranks but obviously I wouldnt push it beyond the limits of good humour (ie: shitting in his coffee mug)... but in all fairness he's played pranks on new employees to see how they handle themselves in different, or even awkward social situations... One guy in my department conspired with the 2 partners (1 of whom is no longer with the business) to play a prank on another guy who was relatively new with the company. The two partners along with the guy who was in on ther prank called their other guy into the conference room and made implications that the other guy felt sexually harrassed by the new guy (implying he was gay and hitting on colleagues which, obviously he wasnt... at least to the best of my knowledge). Anyways, the guy got really defensive while the other three persisted in their claim that whether or not he's gay it was innapropriate to make sexual advances on co-workers...the prank went on for a good 6 or 7 mins at which point they all just started bursting out with laughter. What's even funnier is that my boss filmed the whole thing with a camera that he had hidden behind his desk ahead of time. It was pretty cruel but luckily the guy didn't take it to heart or get too offended.
