so ya... i wanna get one of those sample pad thingies and don't know what one to buy...
idealy i'd like an mpc1000 but i can't afford it at the moment...

so these are the 4 i'm lookin' at...

akai, mpd 16 or 32

m-audio, trigger finger

or the korg, pad kontrol

i'm really not sure where i should put my money and wanna know what my software options are??

i was thinking the logic sampler but was wondering what might be a good stand alone vst for drumming and looping that can maybe record midi signals?

i've heard good things about using these devices with ableton too... but personally other than using it to time stretch vocals here and there i'm not too big on ableton, and generally don't like working in it.

so gimmee some advice yo!!

what software would be best for live use with a dj rig and what should i buy?

well for integrating with a DJ rig, you'd probably be best off with Ableton.. There's a mixer that came out, I think an alan + heath, that has built-in midi knobs and sliders as well as a standard analog mixer, and from the mixer you can midi-synch with the beat detection it's got, so you can throw your own loops/acapellas over whatever your mixing and it'll always snap to the proper beat, even if your mixing with vinyl/cdjs

I haven't tried any of those pads, but that 2nd one (the AKAI) looks like it would be good for that 'cause of the upfaders, you could assign them to the volume of your diffrent ableton chanels..

hmmmm...

i'm thinking the mpd 24 is the best bet too...

both the trigger finger and mpd 16 are supposed to be cheap builds???

i'm hearing good things about the korg though...

its got a programable kaos pad and comes with its own software too.

check the video

and yeah... i don't like ableton at all for dj'ing...

it's really not fun for me... and programming my mixer to accomodate it sounds like even less fun...

my needs are very simple...

live drums that i can add effects too and if i can record, loop and change tempo without touching my computer that would be a big plus.

maybe batterie?

worst case scenario i can get my buddy to make me something in reactor...

but i really don't wanna dj with my computer...

i'm more leaning towards an rjd2 type set up with multiple decks and an mpc.

I've got an mpc1000 right now, soooooooooooo lucky me :D

I would definately choose the korg, because it's flashy and glows in the dark.
(well, and other stuff...but mostly the lights)

if you're using it for drums, KONTAKT KONTAKT KONTAKT and BATTERY!!!!!
NI owns your soul.

yeah I'm using Battery for all my drum needs... really f'ing great. You can load samples anywhere and build your won custom kits easy as pie. You can then assign like every individual sound to an individual output to get retartedly great sounding drums.

I actually was looking itno one of these not too long ago, I personally prefer the feel of the pads on the korg the most. And it has the built in kaos pad, a deffinate plus.
I'm feeling like smoking crack right now..
