Sony's going down the shitter. I bet they go bankrupt in the next 2 years if they don't do massive restructuring.

I honestly don't see them surviving very long. The only thing they have/had going was the trinitron, and everyone's going lcd/plasma/projection these days. Blue ray I don't see as taking off, the PS3 is just plain gonna tank.. People are a lot less trusting of them after shit like the rootkit fiasco.. The exploding batteries is just another nail in the coffin.

Sony's days are numbered.

yeah, they made some shitty batteries and they literally started overheating and spontaneously combusting.. I know that there were at least 6 houses burned down by sony batteries and one pickup truck, not counting the few hundred laptops that went up and fortunately no one was injured too badly..

Well, considering that sony had to put the blue ray drives "on hold" because they didn't make enough of the diodes for the PS3 and had them all put into that instead, the only people who are going to have a blue ray drive for a while are PS3 owners... And that thing is going to cost 600$ US!

HD dvds are coming on the market really soon, and toshiba has an offer that if you buy one of theirs, you get 3 HD-DVDs for free, the drives are almost certainly going to cost less than 600$ US... Gonna be a nice head start.

The problem with Sony is that they keep supporting proprietary, expensive technology vs. supporting cheaper widespread standards.

Betamax, minidisk, super audio cd, blu-ray, memory stick, UMD media (what the PSP uses), ATRAC3 instead of MP3 in many of their older players, etc...

It's too bad because Sony is probably the company with the best industrial design for electronics besides Apple.
