Please Answer me!!!!!
What do I need to do to plug my Nord Lead into my mixer and then through to my computer. I want to record my synth's sounds in Ableton, has anyone done this? If so. How!
Thank you, I'll bake some brownies for who ever helps me.
I'm feeling in your pants right now..

Yeah... i've done what any moderately knowledgeable user would have... I was asking specifically about MOTU because I don't know how I am supposed to rout or...anything.
I'm feeling mood = color! right now..

The line in should have a number, and ableton probably lets you select your recording source.. Not motu specific, just plain old every soundcard under the sun.

depending on what motu you have you might not even need a mixer...

most of the newer motu's act as a mixer as well (even when your computer is off)

in this case you just wanna run straight in unless you specificly wanna use the mixers pre amp (most motu's have those too).

your audio in should be selected in your abletons mixing track... just make sure that your plugged into the right input and you should be good.

i'd also suggest maybe even reading your motu's manual as it would probably be written alot clearer than anybody could explain on here with out knowing what interface you got.
I'm feeling commando right now..

Very true, I SHOULD read the manual... I came to the conclusion that I would ask here first. My Motu is the 828 MK II. I assume I just need to set it up to recognize inputs, cause I am sure it is plugged in properly. I have a friend coming over to help me out pretty soon so I will post what I have learned. Thanks guys :)

yo dude thats a serious interface!!!

no fuckin' around...

you don't need to even own a mixer with that card either...

just pick an input and make sure the track you wanna record to corrosponds in your recording softare.

if you wanna use pre amps though i think you gotta use one of the 2 ins on the front panel that i'm pretty sure work for both 1/4" or xlr cables.

and i'll apologize in advance if my info is a little off since i'm basing this on playing with my buddys 828.

cheers

1/4 inch ins, select the correct input in ableton

you should read the motu manual though it is a powerful interface

Yeah, there's no point in buying hardware if you aren't going to at least take the effort to understand how it works properly. Might as well have just stuck to your built-in soundcard.

I know I know, but I have to learn Cubase, Logic, Ableton, MOTU, Nord, tons of VSTs and so on right now... I am overwhelmed :\

Take it one at a time then. What's the point in learning Cubase AND Logic? Pick one and learn to master it. I'd go with Logic, easiest to use IMO.. Ableton is only gonna be really usefull for live sets if you've got all of the other stuff, so you really don't need to bother with it.

:) I hear that often but I used to believe that Cubase was the Shrine of making all music! What happened to that?
I know Ableton pretty well, and can anyone give me a concrete example of why I would ever need another program? What does logic do that Albeton doesn't?

I find the sequencer in ableton is kind of simple and more loop based. You could easily make music using just ableton but I find the other soft studio programs are easier to deal with when arranging songs.

I really dislike cubase on any platform, it's very complicated to do simple things in that program.

you should check out digital performer, it is a pretty simple but effective sequencer for the apple platform

its all about the audio engine...

logics is way more advanced...

you can still make full tunes in ableton but you will get a higher quality output if you rewire it and bounce it through logic or cubase...

logic and cubase are pretty much the same shit...

logic is the standard on mac... cubase for p.c.

if you plan on buying a mac in the future its wise to learn logic...

if you hate macs... stick to cubase or pro tools

that's a pretty ludicrous computer.

Yeah digital performer is Motu's studio program. I have only used it a few times but it was very easy to use. It reminded me a bit of cakewalk sonar.
