I noticed this today: [ www.sammcgill.com ]

I thought hate speech and public displays of support for terrorist organizations were illegal in Canada?

I doubt anything will be done about this though.

it's a grey area...ofcourse zionists will paint it as hate speech but if you admit that they have a legitimate political grievence then they can do it so long as it stays quasi peaceful...

As far as I know in regards to canadian law, there is no grey area when it comes to hate speech.

Obviously there is a double standard because it is a touchy issue, and nobody wants another riot due to the canadian government applying canadian law to people who think they are above our laws.

For the record, I dont agree with hate speech crimes, but if they do exist, they should be enforced equally. If an atheist goes around with nazi flags they would be tarred and feathered, but for some reason it's okay if the muslims do it.

I think the Israeli's running around waving their flag saying "Israel belongs to the jews" is just as much hate as this..

You can say whatever you want, if I went in the streets with a picture of mohammed covered in pigs blood, I'd probably be killed, and called a racist idiot by the liberal media (even though the muslims aren't a race either). But a bunch of muslims equating jews with nazis is just fine it seems. The truth is the media is afraid of pissing off the hard liners who have scared everyone into keeping quiet. Fear is the result of terrorism. Everyone is afraid.

A jew is someone from the jewish bloodline, judaism is the religion that most jews practice. Jew refers to people of that bloodline regardless of religious beliefs.

Well if you are from Iran or India you could be aryan, since that is where the term originated. The Aryan = superior white race bullshit was made up by the nazis.

Neoform, I respect your opinion, but I disagree with it.

Whereas most people actually recognize the ethnic character of the jewish people, few people
recognize caucasians as aryans.

"I'm aryan, I'm from Iran" works.
"according to nazi doctrine, I'm an aryan because I'm a non-jewish caucasian" works.
"early 20th century academics would consider me aryan because of my indo-european roots" works.

Equating Nazi ideology with recognizing the ethnic character of the jewish people does not.

And Basdini, the legitimacy of their grievances is debatable. You might believe otherwise, but history is the final arbiter of truth, and you may find yourself on the wrong side of it's verdict. Even if you find yourself on the right side, you still might want to open yourself up to entertaining alternative points of view. I'm not saying you should accept these views, but you might benefit from trying to better understand the people you're fighting. Without moderation, you risk becoming the very type of person you despise.

I don't understand where you people are comming from. If you're parents are irish that makes you irish, if your parents are jewish that makes you jewish. i dunno where race came into this or when it started to make a difference to this conversation. Saying that Israel belongs to the jews is like saying that Scottland belongs to the scotts, it would not be like saying ireland belongs to the protestants since protestantism is not an ethnicity. Although whether or not its a hate crime for them to say that is a whole other story, you still can't equate an ethnicity with a religion or a race, that's simply not what it is.

There's a country called 'Jedia'?

I'd be Irish because my home country is Ireland. Nationalities do not extend into religions, since religions span borders.. if you're jewish and born in Canada, if someone asked you what your nationality is, would you say "I'm a jew" or "I'm Canadian" ? (on second thought, a lot of jews would say the former, but that's stupidity talking.

Actually, everyone who's jewish is considered to belong to the homeland of Israel and to have originated there. That's why they say the former. Also, anyone of jewsh origin automatically has the right to an israeli citisenship and is automatically considered by any israeli to be of the same decent and origin, just like someone in canada of irish decent. You're critizising something because you never understood how it worked.

someone can convert to judaism as a religion but they still won't be "jewish", you can only be jewish if your mother was jewish and her mother and her mother before that.

Jews trace their ancestry to the Hebrews (Israelites), a Semitic tribe (Arabic, Hebrew, Amharic, and Aramaic) who believe they were descendant of Isaac, son of Abraham and Sarah, his wife.*(1). Jews can be identify as a religious group, a cultural group, a ethnic group throughout history. The Jews are all that and more, they are a people, just like the Arabs. You're Jewish if your mother is Jewish, but you also can be a Jew if you fallow the Jewish tradition and Jewish way of life. That is you've converted to Judaism.

The Jews of today aren't exactly the same as the Jews of the time of Solomon. The Jewish tradition and interpretation of the Torah change throughout the ages. Even relatively recently you have secular Yiddish, Reform Judaism, and Zionism.

*1: The Arabs see their lineage trace back to Ishmael, the firstborn son of Abraham and Hagar. She is Sarah handmaiden.

----

Anyway both the Jews and Arabs trust that they're descendants of Abraham and thus, believed the Promised Land, aka Palestine, belongs to them.
