so growing up i always knew i was cambodian with near distant chinese in my blood. great great grand-mother like.

which explains why i'm lighter skin and have tighter eyes than most khmer people... straight hair also as opposed to wavy

then about a year ago after my sister came back from a trip from France, she tells my aunt told her we had a not so distant great grandfather who was Burmese

that totally fucked me up

but having done some ressearch (care of wikipedia) i find out Khmers speak a language that's categories as Mon-Khmer

Mon being a tribe in Burma that shares a language close to ours... although Cambodia doesn't share any borders with Burma... we must've at some point before Thailand took half the khmer empire after we kicked out the Chams down south to Malaysia (muslims)

also i tried to figure out where my facial hair came from since most cambodia people don't have hair on their chin...

i'm guessing (more like hoping) it has to do with Jayavaraman II's relation with Genghis Khan

then tonite, having aunts over from France and Australia, i find out we're part the same bloodline as the Khmers greatest warrior named... FERNANDES who was PORTUGESE

anybody got interesting details of their origins?

i'd like to hear them

That shit is crazy sammy, I would have never thought Portuguese was in you man....dope!

I dont have any Juicy details on my origins, basically my Grandfather and Great Grand Father were both Free Masons which creeps me the fuck out because of all the conspiracy revolving around those dudes. He was an Irish immigrant who married a Quebecois (my grandmother) and spawned my immediate family, which happens to be huge and extremely talented in every case. My Father side was Polish and Jewish. Never got to know my know my fathers side at all, pretty sad actually. My great great aunt Eva Gauthier ( my mothers inspiration) was a world known Stage Performer and she sang and wrote music with the likes of Henry Mancinni and Gershwin. Thats something I'd like to explore more! :)

black irish baby...

in the sixteenth century spain tried to invade england by use of the socalled "SPANISH ARMADA", anyway this totally failled, and some of these dudes ended up crashing on the shores of southern ireland, many of the officers on the ships were spanish from spain but many of the sailors under their command were morocan and from other places in north africa. Anyway these guys crash and get taken care of by lovely irish sea side village girls..who really had no love for the oppressive english...natrually these fine dark haired men seemed attractive to these cumely irish lasses, 5 beers 10 wiskeys and 20 mins later they were parking the spanish beef bus in irish tuna town. And that it is why to this day you have two seemingly distinct irish looks one with blond or red hair with blue or green eyes and the other with black or brown hair with dark eyes and even sometimes darker copper colered skin...

Yeah there is another theory that all the Gaelic people originated from the Iberian peninsula (northern Spain and Portugal), apparently there are some genetic links to the Basque people. Apparently the Red hair and other fair features were originally from Viking invaders, and they are more common in coastal areas of Ireland or Scotland.

My family history is pretty complex. My Great Grandfather on my dad's side was from Romania, and he immigrated to Canada and worked at Ben's Deli (on maisonneuve) for most of his life. He saved every tip her earned and apparently had a room full of coins. When he died the family argued over the money. My Great Grandmother was Native (from some alquonquin tribe I believe). I don't know anything about her. As far as I can remember, my grandfather worked at CN and his English was REALLY hard to understand, as if it was influenced by a bunch of different accents. He spoke mostly French. He died when I was 10 and the family argued over the money (this is common on my dad's side). My Grandmother was adopted and was originally from England. She died at the age of 42 of cancer (when my dad was in his early 20s). Apparently she let my dad grow pot in the backyard when he was a teen. Most of his family speak French, even though they have no real french ancestry (Probably was easier to go from Romanian to French, both latin languages). I know little of that side of the family, they are generally very distant. A few weird things about my Dad's family: My dad has no middle name, only a first and last, and his family has no religious affiliation whatsoever. I look mostly like my dad except my very pale skin.

My mother's side is more or less 100% scottish. My mother was born there. My grandfather died a year before I was born. I'm not sure what he did, but it was probably some blue collar gig. My Grandmother was an only child, very rare in the 1930's. She died last year. I have no grandparents anymore. I have tons of family in Scotland, and because my mom was born there I am a dual citizen of Canada and the UK. I also have some family in Ireland and Australia.

Both my parents came from working class family and grew up in a pretty poor part of the South Shore.

wow, you guys have really cool stories. My family history isn't that complex.
I was born in Spain, both my monther and my father are from Spain, and so is everyone else as far back as anyone of us can remember.
My great grandparents on my fathers side were "connected" somehow with the gov. back then or something like that.
And during the civil war my great grand parents on my moms side hid out in france for a while, but then came back when things settled down in Spain.
That's about it, I'm the first generation to ever leave the country to grow up somewhere else.

Wow I thought I was the only mutt.. heheh. Most of you are mutts too! Almost-just as mutt as me!

My great grandfather was a mason, I don't know anything about it. At the time at least he wasn't allowed to talk about it even with his family and so he didn't, so no one in my family knows, but at the time things were really different, some things the masons use and believe in would have been very controvertially un-christian at the time but now it's not. My grandmother was born and raised in England. Her father left Germany for England before the war. His wife, my great grandmother was a jew. They were all for assimilating themselves, my great grandmother jewish ancestry was kept a family secret, my great grandfather changed his name from Speckmann to Spackman, I'm not really sure specifically why, I guess to avoid descrimination also, as a german and the enemy at the time? My grandmothers family lived in Cornwall, being during ww2, their house somehow got bombed and they had to move to Ste-Ides to stay with my great great uncle who owned a tobacco store. I wish I had asked her more questions when I could. My grandfather was a liutenant in the Canadian military and they met there, he brought her back here, yadayada. My grandfather grew up mostly in Montreal but his mom is from Wicklow, Ireland, a beautiful town on the southern peninsula, right by the ocean, and he spent some years growing up there too. It was very repeatedly invaded by the vikings, being right by the coast and boasting the Black Castle (which is now just a wall). His mother died 2 weeks after he was born, after which he was adopted by his aunt who died soon after. Than he was adopted by his other aunt but she died too. He was probably about 5 years old when he was adopted by family friends and finally, these were the parents he'd keep. He never met his dad or knew why he left him alone, when he was much older he found out he still had his dads name as his official name and he changed it to thta of his adoptive parents because he felt that they were his real parents. Some of his family members also came to Canada, he was always in close contact with his moms family despite the fact that he didn't know his mom, this side of his family was always very close to him. He's the only one I have a family tree for and everyone in it died of some terrible accident, never old age or disease. There is a history of drunkness and craziness but no homicidal maniacs from what I know except maybe my great uncle who went nuts, ran away and never returned, no one knows why. I never met my grandfather but I was very close to my grandma who told me about him sometimes, how much he loved holding my sister as a baby. My dad came here from Greece when he was 17. He grew up on an olive farm in an island village. I don't know much about his family because he was always very distant from them. He always hated seeing his family for some reaosn but no matter what he did they always seemed to want him around and this and that, they were never insulted by the way he was. He was always quiet around them too. They told me when he was 12 he went out to play with his little sister who was 3 and she was dancing around the fire and her dress caught on fire and she burned to death. He was alone with her, he didn't know about stop, drop and roll and there was no water. He seems to feel more angry at his family though than guilty unless its his mom, never had I seen someone who felt they owed another human being so much. Knowing that changes my view of him so much.

About the spanish/gaelic thing.. basically all people of Europe and some of Palestine have partially descended from Celtic blood. The reason Irish people are light is because of viking invaders, who actually weren't supposed to breed with the irish because they were afraid it would make them darker(since the irish were all brown hair, brown eyes) and take away their blonde/red hair. However rape was extremely common and I'm sure there's a good amount of love stories too. They say the vikings became more Irish than the Irish themselves. Red hair is much more common in German people despite the Irish stereotype. Different parts of the UK were invaded excessively throughout history, the amount of tribes that contributed to the gene pool is pretty large and depends a lot from area to area too. The Celts and their predecessors were a very dispersed and tribal people so it made them very easy prey, although they were apparently quite terrifying in battle and often led by scary, ugly, excessively large warrior women who scared the shit out of people. Then came the Romans, who changed everything, burned everyone who wouldn't assimilate and much of Celtic history was lost to either their willful and accidental distruction of it, but the main problem with Celtic history is that the common people didn't write and the druids were forbidden to write about their religion. There are some writings that survive on leaves of all things and there many monks who wrote about them, usually in a more sympathetic light than the roman invaders. Churches were set up that were only pretending to be christian, some of them, maybe even all of them got busted and burnt. The free masons are pretty fucking pagan come to think of it but that's pure speculation. Havoc follows, yadayada.

My great-grandfather was a German soldier in the first World War, which he deserted. He came here with quite a load of money, established himself in Longueuil under a French name. I'm trying to get that information down but it's difficult, since my grandmother, who died from lung cancer eight years ago, was the last one to know his story and I was way too young to remember everything properly.

If I remember correctly, he was a Schroder. He supposedly started a minor league baseball team in Longueuil, was an alderman (échevin) at one time.

I've given up on knowing more than that. I mean: 1) he changed his name and 2) He was German and it's terribly difficult to find pre-WWII information on German births and deaths...

On my father's side, it's the usual mix of Native blood. Cree and Inuit. So I have no luck on that side either.

I would love to have a famous pirate or general or whatever else in my bloodline... but in the end, what does it change? It certainly doesn't change who I am.
