As for Bars, I think it will work out pretty well. I can see for the first few weeks lots of people getting kicked out of Foufs, but here in Alberta, the smoking ban doesn't seem to have that much of an effect on the nightlife... people just go outside, and then they come back in. As for the Afterhours, the ones here in Edmonton aren't as big as the ones in Montreal (200-300max), and it's easy for the bouncers to control who goes in and who goes out... I really find it hard to imagine Aria or Cirucus controlling their smokers corwd. Unless they just say: "If you wanna smoke, get the fuck out." |

for individuals.. 87$ first offence up to 600$ for repeats So if a business gets caught a few times they might get fined enough to go out of business, and one cigarette can cost you 87$ if you get caught. Apparently they will have undercover people around as well. The law also specifies that you cannot smoke within 9 metres of the entrence of a school/university, hospital, or government building |

9 metres goes well beyond the sidewalk. Montreal cops are notorious dicks so you can bet you will be ticketed if they have the SMALLEST leverage |

| Coolness: 201235 | apparently they give cops a certain date every month for ticket contestions, so the thing about the cop not showing up at court contestations and a not-guilty being defaulted is not true anymore. Trust that if a cop sees you and doesn't like the way you look they have many more reasons they could fuck you over. |
