i don't know whether this will help you, but there's a deaf center called "Maison des Sourds" on Cremazie Sud, just before St-Denis when you come from St-Laurent...

Wait for the deaf mute dude with the cards for sale to come into a bar some day, and bam, cheap sign language lessons.
there is a place called SIVET or SIVEC or somethin like that, I used them once when I needed to hire a simultaneous translator.

if i was there i would teach you the alphabet, and how to say license and bitch and fuck and dumb and blonde and brunette, and shut up!

'cause that's all i know. start by the alphabet so you can at least spell things to people.

You could learn it at Mackay for free if you volunteered for them... a friend of mine learnt there because he wanted to become a conselor for their summer camp...

i learned some sign language, i took classes for free at Dawson. The teacher was a student doing the leadership program there (i forget what its called) and she happened to be deaf so she set up a class.. it was really cool to learn some sign and just general things that are considered rude in the deaf community, like when you are talking/signing with someone you shouldnt be looking at their hands but looking them in the eye. At the end of the classes we had a pizza party and she invited a lot of her deaf friends and we all got to talk and practice and played fun party games! hurrah
