Kraftwerk Ripped Off ?

It took me long enough but I was able to finally put my finger on it.
I've been asking a shitload of people what song it was that was playing everywhere that literally ripped off Kraftwerk's masterpiece Computer Love. Unfortunately, nobody knew what the hell I was talking about. Not being very radio oriented, I didn't find out until I was able to ask my ex about it as we heard it on the airwaves ( radio stations have a nasty habit of advertising the next few tracks hours before but once you catch the tune as you switch channels or power the radio on, the LAST thing they'll do is mention anything about the track ) and she said it sounded like Coldplay. And it was. It's Coldplay - Talk. I know, I was under a rock for the past year. But what the fuck nonetheless ? Playing a Kraftwerk melody on an electric guitar ? I don't know if I should feel insulted or turned on. All in all, I'm not a fan of Coldplay, I think most of their stuff is too depressing for me to listen to, probably being bipolar and shit. This being said, I never said they sucked, I think they are incredible. In fact, I think Talk is an awesome track. I'm impressed. That's all I wanted to share. I'll shut the hell up now. |

Dude... this is old news, I don`t like Coldplay much either, but they didn`t try to hide the riff or anything and admitted to it and credited in their liner notes and in interviews and stuff like that because they were Kraftwerk fans... its really not that uncommon... fuck, the rolling stones ripped off a k.d. lang riff back in the mid-nineties... (Rolling Stones - Anybody Seen My Baby?, kd lang - Constant Craving)... I agree... its lame.. but its really to be expected.
And yes, Kraftwerk Rocks. Pocket Calculator is one of my fave tracks... |

ACTUALLY...
Coldplay DID NOT credit Kraftwerk in their liner notes. At least not anywhere in the foldout I got with the CD I bought at HMV. I was really surprised. I realized a few months ago that it was a complete ripoff. But hey. Everybody rips everybody off nowadays. And the publicity that Kraftwerk gets from Coldplay's plagiarism, is probably as good for them as anything else.. Original art is better though. |

pretty sure they paid to use the melody though. I saw the singer talking about it openly on tv.
kai you bought the coldplay cd? ;-) |
