Well there is the highten sesory perception that may come into play, the way you become more alert. Also alot of people do take the shit in dark areas, i.e: a rave, after hours. And darkness makes your pupils dilate.. Other than that.. I dunno. I'm sure there is a psycho-active affect the methaemphetamines have on you too.. But i dunno every drug is differnt.. Like speed and xtc are not the same yet both make your pupils dilate..

highten sesory perception: heroin or shrooms doesn't do that
dark areas: take an E an go in front of a mirror with bright light..
Like speed and xtc are not the same yet both make your pupils dilate: thats exactly my question, so unless you say something interesting to say, just keep your mouth shut..

I dunno, I'm curious too now. I'll ask my ex-girlfriend, she's practically an intensive care nurse by now.

my theorizing would lead me to believe that because you are experiencing a
state that increases your perceptual boundaries
a corollary effect is that your sense organ (eye)
is affected by being more receptive and alert
(or the opposite in the case of opiates. which make you less receptive)

something to that effect...
makes sense no?

that's what i guess too, but i'd like to know the chemical/physical explanation

like, for example, thc causes red eyes because of the blood depressurization which makes the veins inflate, especially in the ocular area.
does anybody have clues for the pupil dilatation caused by so many drugs ?

stimulants make pupils dilate
why? certain parts of the brain are affected in such a manner
notice that same thing happens when we are stimulated without "drugs", such as when looking at something we enjoy looking at

yeah but it's not just stimulants, and then they say also that opiates do the opposite but then in the case of PCP(which is an opiate) your pupils can both shrink or grow depending on how much you took, and in some cases, not do anythign at all, so there must be a deeper reason for it that can explain it outside of these wide-ass categories.

further had it...it all depends on how a particular drug is affecting the nervous system.

Mydriasis is an excessive dilation of the pupil due to disease, drugs, or the like. Although the pupil will dilate in the dark normally, it is usually quite constricted (small) in the light. With mydriasis, a pupil will remain excessively large, even in a bright environment.

Abnormal constriction of the pupil is called miosis.

The mechanism of mydriasis depends on the agent being used. It will usually involve either a disruption of the parasympathetic nerve supply to the eye (which causes contraction of the pupil), or over-activity of the sympathetic nervous system (SNS).

speed & E: Phamacodynamically, these drugs all fall under the umbrella of central nervous system stimulants.

oh and PCP is not an opiate. Chemically and pharmacologically it is a member of the family of dissociative anesthetics or dissociative psychedelics, along with ketamine, tiletamine and high doses of dextromethorphan.

The term opiate refers to the alkaloids found in opium, an extract from the seed pods of the opium poppy (Papaver somniferum L.). It has also traditionally referred to natural and semi-synthetic derivatives of morphine. The term is often incorrectly used to refer to all drugs with opium-/morphine-like pharmacological action, which are more properly classified under the broader term opioid.
