if you use ram that's a different speed than the other ram in your computer *all* the ram will run at the speed of the slowest chip.
if you have a PC2100 and a PC3600 in there, even though it's able to run at 3600, it'll be running at 2100.. so basically unless you want to slow down your computer, don't buy anything slower than PC2100 and unless you want to waste money, don't buy anything faster than PC2100 if that's what you already have in there (unless you plan on removing what's in there). anyway, a Tbird 1400 isn't that old, you can find PC2100 ram most places for pretty cheap.. try CompuSmart.. |

i'd add that if you really want 2x512 instead of 1x1024 (i guess for safety reasons : if one crashes, you still have the other), then in that case buy exactly the same ram cards ! really.
then, ram speed depends more on your motherboard (check your rambus specs) than your cpu. but as ian said, 1GB pc2100 ram would surely be enough and compliant with your material. |

I think 2 x 512 is cheaper anyway... No point getting a single gig module unless you think you will upgrade the ram even more in the future. |
